One of the women who alleged sexual harassment by Arunabh Kumar has finally lodged an FIR against the TVF chief. The development comes a day after the Mumbai Police had categorically stated that no FIR would be filed against Kumar unless at least one victim came forward and approached the police.

On Tuesday, The Quint was the first to report that one of the alleged victims was going to lodge a police complaint in the next couple of days.

The suburban Andheri police registered a case against Kumar under sections 354 A (causing sexual harassment) and 509 (insulting the modesty of a woman by indecent words, gesture or acts) of the Indian Penal Code.

Without disclosing the identity of the woman who has registered the complaint, DCP Ashwini Sanap of the Mumbai Police confirmed to PTI that an FIR has been filed against the TVF CEO.

Following an article published on Medium.com that accused Kumar of sexual harassment, multiple women had come forward to make similar allegations against him.

Responding to the allegations against Arunabh, TVF had said that the company is conducting an internal probe.

Earlier, advocate Rizwan Siddiquee had filed a third-party application to the Mumbai Police, urging the cops to file an FIR against TVF founder and CEO Arunabh Kumar on charges of sexual harassment, when no victim came forward to register a formal complaint against Kumar. The Mumbai Police had refused to lodge an FIR based on Siddiquee’s complaint.

In its initial response on 13 March, TVF had called the allegations “ludicrous and defamatory” and said that the company would “leave no stone unturned to find the author of the article and bring them to severe justice for making such false allegations.”

TVF had later issued a statement calling their initial response "a bit too quick and emotional."
