1. CBSE Class 12 Results Announced

CBSE Class 12 results are out! Girls have outperformed boys this year too. Hansika Shukla from Ghaziabad and Karishma Arora from Muzaffarnagar topped the exam this year with a near perfect score of 499 out of 500. Best performers in the country are Thiruvananthapuram, Chennai and New Delhi.

2. PM Holds High-Level Meeting to Check Preparedness for Cyclone Fani

A high alert has been issued as the severe cyclonic storm Fani is likely to make a landfall near Puri on Friday, 3 May. Prime Minister Narendra Modi chaired a high-level meeting assuring assistance to all states.

All educational institutions have been shut until further notice. Meanwhile, a massive evacuation operation is underway in coastal areas of Odisha. 6 trains from south India to Assam have been cancelled. NDRF teams are in place to help in rescue and rehabilitation if needed. The Centre too has announced a release of Rs 1,086 crore to Odisha, Tamil Nadu, West Bengal and Andhra Pradesh.

3. ‘Short Dresses Don’t Invite Rape’: Locals on Gurugram Viral Video

Remember the video that went viral on the internet, where a group of girls in Gurugram, confronted a middle-aged woman after she allegedly shamed them for wearing short dresses at a restaurant?

The woman has now offered an unconditional apology, saying she was harsh and incorrect in her statement.

4. Will Masood Azhar’s Blacklisting Help BJP?

Things took a political turn a day after Jaish-e-Mohammed chief Masood Azhar was designated a global terrorist.

MP Chidambaram said the Congress is happy that the process has concluded successfully, but wondered why Pakistan wants Narendra Modi to continue as prime minister. While BSP supremo Mayawati said that the ruling party was trying to use Masood Azhar to garner votes.

The BJP, on the other hand, said this was a "big victory" in the fight against terror. Prime Minister Narendra Modi said this will be the government’s first step to bring the curtains down on those targeting India. Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, Union Minister Arun Jaitley also gave credit to PM Modi's leadership for the UN's decision.

5. BJP’s Nationalism a Trap: Olympian Poonia on Jaipur Campaign Trail

Meanwhile, in Rajasthan’s Jaipur (rural) constituency, it is a high-power battle between two Olympians, Commonwealth gold medalists and Padma Shree awardees. Discus thrower Krishna Poonia from the Congress will be locking horns with sitting BJP MP and Cabinet Minister Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore.

Taking a jibe at the BJP’s use of rhetoric, Poonia said nationalism is BJP’s trap, “They’ve (BJP) learnt how to repeatedly tell lies. But in 2019, there is a change, because homes cannot function on rhetoric. When there is no employment, how will a young person raise her family?”
