1. JNU Teacher Booked for 'Molesting' Student

A JNU teacher has been booked for molestation. The survivor has alleged that the incident occurred on 10 October when she was protesting against the teacher at Sabarmati lawns of the campus.

The survivor said she had been protesting with other students against a hostel raid "in the garb of a NAAC survey which took place under the leadership of the teacher".

2.Businessman Held for Plan to Kill Lover's Husband

A plan to free his lover from the 'clutches' of her husband in Vadodara by killing him, backfired on a Thane businessman who was held with his accomplices before they could execute the conspiracy. A police team intercepted the mastermind Nilesh Chalavabe (27), and shooters Brijesh Kumar Pandey (24) and Ajay Maurya (22), while they were to board a bus in Thane for Vadodara on Tuesday night.

3. Thieves Pull out ATM Box, Make off with Rs 31 Lakh

The thieves who fled with an ATM cash box containing Rs 31 lakh in south-west Delhi's Chhawla on 14 October had tied the box to a tempo and pulled out the sealed box from the ground, the CCTV footage of the kiosk revealed.

Before breaking into the machine, the men had sprayed black paint on the CCTV camera lens installed at the kiosk, police said.

4. Three Minor Domestic Helps Rescued from Delhi's Model Town

Three girls, allegedly being held as captive domestic helps in north west Delhi’s Model Town, were rescued by the police on Tuesday.

In their statements before the Child Welfare Committee (CWC) recorded on Wednesday, the girls said that they were made to serve the employer’s family under gruelling conditions and without adequate food or rest.

In their statements, the copies of which have been accessed by HT, the girls have claimed that they were subjected to verbal abuse and not paid salaries.

5. Shots Fired at Trinamool Leader in Hooghly's Chinsurah

A group of unknown assailants on Tuesday fired at Trinamool leader Mirza Sanwar Ali in Hooghly's Chinsurah, triggering protest by locals on Wednesday who blocked Chinsurah road and attacked a police vehicle. Ali (50), however, escaped with only minor injuries as the bullets did not hit him, police sources said. He sustained injuries on his forehead, and has been admitted to Chinsurah Sadar Imambara Hospital.

Sources in the police said the incident took place at Chawk Bazaar when Ali was returning home after his work on Tuesday night. The assailants had fired three bullets at him from behind. The firing created panic in the area and locals rushed to help.

6. Lawyer Arrested in Murder Case

City-based prominent criminal lawyer CP Udayabhanu was today arrested in a case related to the recent murder of a real estate dealer in Thrissur district, a day after the Kerala High Court dismissed his anticipatory bail plea.

A senior police official, who is part of the team probing the case, said Udayabhanu had been arrested.

Real estate dealer Rajeev was found murdered in a deserted building at Chalakudy in Thrissur district last month.

Justice A Hariprasad of the high court had yesterday turned down the lawyer's anticipatory bail plea, holding that his custodial interrogation was highly essential.

Udayabhanu is the seventh accused in the case.

7. Pune Man Kills Wife over Domestic Dispute, Hangs Self, Say Police

A man allegedly killed his wife over a domestic dispute and committed suicide at Loni Kalbhor on Tuesday night. An offence in this case has been lodged at the Loni Kalbhor police station. Police have identified the deceased as Kisan Rama Kamble (35) and his wife Suvarna Kisan Kamble (30), residents of Mali Mala in Loni Kalbhor, and native of Karmala in Solapur district.

According to police, Suvarna and Kisan got married a few years earlier and they had two daughters and a son. Kisan worked as a driver, while Suvarna was a domestic help. The couple argued frequently and had started living separately about seven years ago, said police.

8. CID Arrests Three in Darjeeling Cop Killing Case

The CID on Wednesday arrested three persons from Darjeeling in connection with the killing of Sub-Inspector Amitav Malik in the Hills on 13 October, said CID sources.

The accused have been identified as Shyam Kami (30) and Mahindra Kami (29) of Alipurduar and Dewaj Lepcha (30) of Darjeeling. All three were produced before a court in Siliguri on Wednesday. "The arrested people were remanded to 14 days of police custody," said ADG (CID) Rajesh Kumar.

9. Mumbai Child Trafficking Racket: 17 Minors Sent Abroad

The Sahar police investigating the recently busted child trafficking racket, in which at least 17 minors were sent to USA and Mexico from Mumbai’s Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport, found that they were sent on four forged Indian passports, which were re-used several times.

The accused, Hemang Modi, 52, and his wife, Harsha, 41, who live in Borivli (East), came under the scanner after immigration officials found Harsha’s passport had been used by four different women to go abroad. Harsha also used the same passport to make foreign trips, police said.
