A female junior engineer was tied to a chair and burnt to death in Bihar's Muzaffarpur district, police said on Tuesday.
Sarita Devi, who lived separately from her husband in a rented house, was targeted on Sunday night. The police were told about the crime on Monday.
The relations between Sarita and her husband were rocky and the police have sealed her house for further investigation.
“We have begun an investigation,” Muzaffarpur’s Senior Superintendent of Police Vivek Kumar said. Police said kerosene oil was used to set her alight.
The police have also found a note from the scene of the crime, in which the woman wrote to her mother asking her to take care of her children.
However, the police is considering the case to be murder and not suicide, as the note appears to indicate.
Her body was found completely mutilated and Sarita’s mother idenified her only through her slippers.
The police also suspect that before burning the woman, a chemical of some description was put on her.
Sarita’s husband Vijay Singh has also been summoned to the police station.
