Shashank, a 12-year-old thalassemia patient who aspires to become a police inspector, performed the duties of a cop at the VV Puram police station in Bengaluru on Tuesday, 24 July.
“BCP (Bengaluru City Police) humanitarian deed helped 12-year-old boy Shashank, suffering from life threatening disorder, to become a Police Inspector for an hour in VV Puram police station today,” the Bengaluru City police tweeted.
The NGO Make-A-Wish Foundation co-ordinated with the police on the initiative to make Shashank's dream come true.
Thalassemia is a blood disorder involving lower-than-normal amounts of an oxygen-carrying protein.
Shashank, a resident of Narayanahalli in Chintamani, received a a guard of honour and was escorted by inspector TD Raju. The Hindu reported that Shashank inspected the station, prison cell, armoury and the control room.
When asked why he wants to become a police officer, the 12-year-old said he wants to “punish drunkards who create nuisance,” the daily reported.
