‘Taj Mahal Is Not Tejo Mahalaya’: Centre Tells Agra Court
Centre responded to the lawyers’ assertion on Tejo Mahalaya, by saying it was “concocted” and “self built”,
The Centre, responding to a suit filed by a group of six advocates claiming that the Taj Mahal is ‘Tejo Malaya Temple palace’ said that the assertion was “concocted” and “self built”, reported Bar and Bench.
Six advocates have filed a suit in a Agra court claiming that the Taj was the seat of Agreshwar Mahadev Naagnatheshwar and the property belongs to the diety.
According to the report, the Centre’s response stated that the historic monument was built by Mughal Emperor Shah Jahab in memory of his wife, Mumtaz.
The advocates reportedly opposed to Namaz being offered inside the Taj’s premises and claimed that the filed the suit to assert their right to Darshan. They alleged that Shah Jahan seized the ‘temple’ from Raja Jai Singh, in order to convert it into a memorial of his late wife, reported the portal.
That the “Agreshwar Mahadev Naagnatheshwar” temple in the present form was constructed by Raja Paramardi Dev in (1212 Twelve Hundred Twelve) ‘Vikram Samvat’ i.e. 1155-56 (Eleven Hundred Fifty Five-Fifty Six) AD and the temple since then was named “Tejomahalaya” with Lord “Shri Agreshwar Mahadev Naagnatheshwar Virajmaan” as the “Deity”...Suit filed by the Advocates
Countering the claims made in the suit, the Centre said:
The concocted and self-built story of the plaintiffs has no legs to stand as stated by the plaintiffs that the suit property was usurped and taken by the King Shah Jahan from Raja Jai singh since as per the records available, the said property was taken in lieu/ exchange of other properties given to the Raja in turn…
