Coming out in support of India’s move to abrogate Article 370, Syrian envoy to India, Riad Abbas said that the Indian government's move to scrap Article 370 of the Constitution is an internal matter of the country.

"Every government has the right to do whatever it likes on its land to protect its people. We are always with India on any action," Abbas told news agency ANI.

This comment by the Syrian envoy comes in the backdrop of military operation launched by Turkey in north-east Syria. Appreciating Indian government’s stand on the issue, Riad said that Syria is looking forward to improving bilateral ties with India.

“The Syrian government and the people of my country highly appreciate the India government’s stand on the matter.”

India had earlier condemned Turkey’s move saying that Ankara’s actions can undermine “stability in the region” and has the potential for causing humanitarian and civilian distress.

“We are deeply concerned at the unilateral military offensive by Turkey in north-east Syria. Turkey’s actions can undermine stability in the region and the fight against terrorism. Its action also has the potential for causing humanitarian and civilian distress,” said the Foreign Ministry in its statement.
