There has been a case of radioactive material leak from cargo at the T3 terminal at Delhi airport. The authorities rushed NDMA and NDRF teams to the airport to assess the situation.
The area was cordoned off to avoid any damage, while seven fire tenders and a hazmat van have also reached the spot to tackle any eventuality.
However, Deputy Commissioner of Police Sanjay Bhatia later quoted the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) as saying that the radioactivity following the leak was within permissible limits.
Delhi Police got the first call around 10:25am.
Six packets containing solid sodium molybdate had arrived from Paris by flight AF 226. The consignment was meant for cargo terminal but mistakenly placed in an area meant for courier (packets).
Earlier in May, Radioactive material leaked from a consignment of medical equipment at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport. However, the incident had been contained and no passengers were exposed to the leak.
