The Supreme Court on Wednesday gave the central government the go ahead to appoint a Central Vigilance Commissioner (CVC) and a Vigilance Commissioner (VC) – two positions waiting to be filled for some time.

Attorney General Mukul Rohatgi on Monday told a bench of Chief Justice HL Dattu, Arun Mishra and Amitava Roy that the government had shortlisted the candidates and only needed the court’s consent to announce the names.

The apex court on December 17, 2014, had asked the central government to take its permission before going ahead with these appointments, as well as furnish it with details of the appointment procedure.
