In a rare show of Muslim solidarity, people from both the Shia and Sunni sects of Islam came together to offer Eid prayers in Delhi’s Jor Bagh area.

Sunni Muslims offered Eid-ul-Adha prayers behind Shia Imam in congregation at the Qudsia Mosque of Dargah Shah-e-Mardan.

Initiated as part of a movement on a Facebook page called ‘Shoulder To Shoulder’, the idea was thought of against the backdrop of growing hostility between the two sects in the Middle east.

“Hundreds have been killed across the world by ISIS this Ramadan. Their simple objective is to divide humanity and disrupt peace. How can we defeat their objective? It is simple, isn’t it?” one of the Facebook statuses of the page read.

The page further says:

Combined prayers are just the first step, Shoulder To Shoulder hopes to have more such activities in other parts of the country too in the coming times.

Similar prayers were also held in Lucknow.
