Reacting to the controversy around the ‘chhillar’ pun made by Shashi Tharoor, Miss World Manushi Chhillar took to Twitter saying she “isn’t going to be upset over a tongue-in-cheek remark”. Manushi responded to a tweet by MD of Times of India Group Vineet Jain, in which he said that “light-hearted humour” should be taken more lightly.
“A girl who has just won the World isn’t going to be upset over a tongue-in-cheek remark. ‘Chillar’ talk is just small change - let’s not forget the ‘chill’ within Chhillar,” tweeted a cheeky Manushi.
Congress leader Shashi Tharoor's attempt to attack the Centre over demonetisation using the surname of new Miss World Manushi Chhillar appeared to backfire on Sunday 19 November with the National Commission for Women deciding to summon him over his "derogatory" remark.
Even though the beauty queen has taken the whole furore in spirit, the NCW demanded that he should apologise for allegedly degrading the achievement of Chhillar.
Tharoor apologised over his remark, which, he said was a "light-hearted" comment and also praised Chhillar.
NCW chief Rekha Sharma told ANI, “I was thinking to summon him but he apologised, but his apologies aren't genuine. It seems he's telling people to chill after apologising. I would suggest him he must apologise properly to the nation”
Tharoor’s original tweet was a pun on the word ‘chillar’, which in Hindi means ‘loose change’.
The commission said on Twitter it would summon Tharoor for his "derogatory and degrading tweet on our pride”.

Accusing Tharoor of degrading Chhillar’s achievement, a medical student who hails from Haryana, the NCW asked whether the Congress leader will call his own daughter a “chhillar”. The commission also added that, “he must apologise immediately.”
