In the Mumbai Metro project, Anil Ambani’s company Reliance Infrastructure has acquired three-fourth of the stake by investing less than one-third of what the government did, alleged Right to Information (RTI) activist Shailesh Gandhi.
In a series of tweets, the former Central Information Commissioner wrote that the government has invested Rs 780 crore in the Mumbai Metro. In addition, land worth Rs 600 crore has also been given free of cost to the project.
However, Gandhi added, Reliance Infrastructure invested just Rs 389 crore and acquired a 74 percent stake in the project. He referred to a decision of the Information Commission of 2015 in this regard.
“In Mumbai Metro Govt. invested 780 crores and Reliance invested 389 crores. Further land worth 600 crores was given by govt. Yet by black magic govt. has 26 percent shares and Reliance has 74 percent,” Gandhi wrote on the micro blogging website.
The Mumbai Metropolitan Regional Development Authority (MMRDA) has allowed Ambani's company Reliance Infrastructure to construct the North-South Metro-4 corridor of the Mumbai Metro. Reliance bagged three packages in this project worth Rs 1584 crores in April.
