The Supreme Court, on Tuesday, 25 June, refused to entertain Congress' plea against the Election Commission's decision to hold separate bypolls to two Rajya Sabha seats in Gujarat.
The two seats, vacated by Union Mnisters Amit Shah and Smriti Irani after their election to the lower house of Parliament, are casual vacancies, scheduled to go to polls on 5 July.
The court, further responding to the Congress' plea, said that the law is clear that the only way to challenge this is to file an election petition. Last week, the court had sought a response from the EC on the same, according to The Indian Express.
