Chhota Rajan Said He Did Not Feel Guilty For J Dey's Murder, Claims TV journalist
A senior television journalist deposed in the murder trial of Mid-Day investigation editor J Dey, and told the court that gangster Chhota Rajan told him over a phone call that he did not feel guilty for the crime.
The journalist, while being examined by Special Public Prosecutor Pradip Gharat, told the court, "On July 1, 2011, I was working on the Neeraj Grover murder case and, at 9 pm, I received a call from a number starting with +5302. The caller identified himself as Nana. He was Chhota Rajan. He asked me whether I would be recording the conversation. I said I would note it down."
He added, "He told me J Dey had crossed the limit and he was publishing incorrect news and maligning him. He also told me that Dey was trying to double-cross him. Dey also told Rajan that he was going to the Philippines. When I asked Rajan why Dey was being targeted since he was a journalist who was doing his job, Rajan said, 'If a journalist crosses his boundary, then he should be ready to face the consequences.'"

19-Year-Old Beaten Up By Kandivali Highrise Residents For Smoking In Front of the Building
A 19-year-old boy was punched in the face, kicked in the ribs, and thrashed with sticks by a group of residents from a Kandivali (E) highrise and a local cable operator for smoking in the vicinity of their building.
The incident occurred around 7.30 pm Monday, when the victim – Thakur Village resident Alexander John Philip, who lives a few blocks away from the highrise -- got into an argument with the residents.
“I was smoking on the pavement abutting Vishnu Shivam Tower when a group of men demanded to know why did I light a cigarette in a residential area? I politely told them the road was not their private property and began to walk away when one of them grabbed my shirt and demanded to know my address,” Philip, who suffers from dyslexia and who is appearing for HSC exams, told Mumbai Mirror.

Mumbai Shows How Ill-Prepared It Is To Handle Accident Victims
A couple and a bike rider injured in a road accident on Marine Drive on Tuesday night were bundled off to a hospital in a cab by a cop who did not even accompany them, raising questions on the emergency protocol followed in the city.
The injured -- students Shashank Maurya and Neha Lodh, both 21, and the biker Sameer Shah, 30, who knocked them down – were taken to GT Hospital, which is not equipped to handle accident victims. While the accident took place at 9 pm and the victims reached GT Hospital at 9.25 pm, a CT scan on Shashank, who had suffered head injuries, could be performed only at 2 am and for which he had to be taken to JJ Hospital. A sonography scan on Neha, who was complaining of acute stomach ache, could also not be carried out because the hospital did not have the required machine.

Runaway Bandra Teen Leads Cops, CM's Office on Wild Goose Chase Across States
A Bandra student sent the Mumbai, Palghar and Jaipur police on a merry chase across states for five whole days and even got Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis' office involved in hunting him down. Aqib Khan (13) was finally located at his aunt's home in Bihar. However, the events surrounding his disappearance are still a mystery.
The police and his mother, Daulatbi Khan, an acid attack survivor, said the boy appears to be traumatised and hasn't said much since returning.
The Std VI student of a well-known school in Bandra, Aqib, had gone missing on April 13 from a relative's home in Nalasopara (the area is under the jurisdiction of the Palghar police).

Youth Held With 70 gm Meow Meow Drug at Malad
The Anti Narcotics Cell (ANC) of Mumbai Police has arrested a youth identified as Zaheer Mehmood Khan (27), who allegedly used to sell drugs to the employees of a call centre through five food stalls, that his family owns in the area. Cops have also recovered 70 gm of Mephedrone (MD) from his possession.
Acting on a tip off that Zaheer would meet one of his customers at the Malad Link Road area on Monday night, senior inspector Sunil Mane and a couple of other officers laid a trap. When he arrived at the Link Road junction, the cops nabbed him.

25 Trees Supposed to be Transplanted In Aarey, Almost Dead
Protecting the city's green cover appears to be the least of the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority's priority. The development body, which was tasked with the responsibility of transplanting trees uprooted due to the Metro III construction, has gone ahead and done what environmentalists most feared - killed them.
During a recent visit to the plot, where the trees were transplanted, Mid-Day found over 25 trees lying lifeless or dead.
This comes barely two months after MMRDA had uprooted the trees to carry out Metro alignment work between Dahisar and DN Nagar. Until now, over 100-odd trees have been transplanted at a plot identified in Aarey Milk Colony.

Cops In Ulhasnagar and Thane Ask DJs to Cut Down Noise Pollution
In a bid to reduce noise pollution, the Thane and Ulhasnagar police have turned up the volume on Disc Jockeys (DJ), by banning them from playing at cultural programmes or weddings. Interestingly, the move to drive out DJs started days after the Bombay high court issued a contempt notice to cops and civic officials in the area.
The cops have joined the efforts of activists who have filed petitions in the Bombay high court demanding a ban on DJs and asking them to follow noise pollution norms.
Since the last week of March, Sunil Bharatwaj, deputy commissioner of police, Ulhasnagar, along with senior police inspectors of different police stations in the area and NGOs have attended different meetings to create awareness about noise pollution.

MSRDC Begins Survey For 11-Km-Long Tunnel Connecting Borivli to Ghodbunder Road
The light at the end of the proposed underground tunnel that will connect Borivli to Ghodbunder Road continues to be bleak. While the Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC) has finally begun survey work for the 11-km-long tunnel, sources say the way ahead is full of hurdles as procurement of clearances from several authorities is still pending.
MSRDC managing director R Mopalwar said, “The Sanjay Gandhi National Park (SGNP) authorities have given us permission to conduct the survey on foot inside the park. We have begun the survey work.” The chief conservator of forest at SGNP, Anwar Ahmed, confirmed this development.
