1. Security Stepped up for Dasara

With less than 48 hours to go for Mysuru Dasara procession on Vijayadashami day, district in-charge minister V Somanna on Sunday scotched rumours of threats to the state’s foremost cultural jamboree.

This followed reports late Saturday night that sleuths are said to have detained terror suspects in a town near Mysuru. Both Somanna and Mandya superintendent of police K Parashuram denied the rumours. The police chief denied making any detentions or arrests. “We do not know from where and how these rumours have started,” he added.

“Police are maintaining high vigil… There is no threat to Dasara,” Somanna said.

An Uber taxi driver allegedly beat up a 23-year-old software engineer after the two had an argument over the fare to Kempegowda International Airport. The incident took place at Hoodi on Wednesday evening, but the police are yet to arrest the driver as he is on the run.

The singer had said, “I thought it would be the right opportunity to take our relationship to another level. It is music that binds us."

4. Woman Claims Spouse Died After Falling off Stool, Held for Murder

A 25-year-old woman was arrested on Friday for allegedly murdering her 27-year-old husband in their bedroom on September 29.

Naveeda Sultana, a resident of NGR Layout in Roopena Agrahara, initially claimed her husband, Kasheeb Beg, owner of a small-scale garment factory, fell off the stool and died. But Bommanahalli police said she kept changing her story and refused to say how he died.

Police filed a case of unnatural death after Naveeda complained to them that Kasheeb fell off the wooden stool while replacing a bulb around 12.30am on September 29 and sustained severe head injuries. Kasheeb succumbed around 3pm the next day.

5. Open Letter to Prime Minister Criticises Mob Lynching

To register their protest against sedition charges slapped against 49 eminent personalities — including historian Ramchandra Guha, actor Aparna Sen and filmmakers Mani Ratnam and Adoor Gopalakrishnan — for expressing concern in an open letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi over growing incidents of mob lynching, civil society activists and intellectuals have written a similar open letter to the PM.

The letter has been signed by K. Neela, Mahesh Rathod, Arjun Bhadre, Maruti Gokhale, Kashinath Ambalagi, Maula Mulla and others.

Symbolically releasing the letter to the media here on Sunday, Neela said that if working for truth, peace, justice and democracy amounts to being anti-national and attracts sedition charges, an overwhelming majority of people in the country, including herself, were anti-nationals.
