The Supreme Court on Thursday, 5 September, refused pre-arrest bail to former finance minister P Chidambaram in the INX Media money-laundering case lodged against him by the Enforcement Directorate.
The top court dismissed Chidambaram's plea challenging the Delhi High Court's verdict that denied him anticipatory bail.
A bench of Justices R Banumathi and AS Bopanna said this is not a fit case to grant anticipatory bail.
Granting anticipatory bail to Chidambaram at this stage will hamper investigation, the apex court said, adding that the investigating agency has to be given sufficient freedom to conduct its probe into the case.
