SC Cancels Proceedings Against Kashmir’s Police Officers

The Srinagar chief judicial magistrate had forwarded a request to start proceedings against the senior officers.

• The Supreme Court on Tuesday stayed contempt proceedings against senior police officers, Syed Javaid Mujtaba Gillani and Amit Kumar.
  
  

• The officers had allegedly not registered a case against DSP Yasir Qadri, who has been accused of killing a protestor in the political unrest after Burhan Wani’s death in the Valley.
  
  
• The SC relieved the officers after the Jammu and Kashmir government claimed they were not given time to challenge the chief judicial magistrate’s decision.
