The Supreme Court, on 21 September, allowed a 17-year-old girl who was raped to terminate her 24-week-old pregnancy.

The apex court directed the Bengaluru Medical College Hospital and Research Centre to terminate the pregnancy.

The 17-year-old approached the SC after the Karnataka High court rejected her plea to abort. The high court had refused the girl’s plea saying that as per the medical opinions tendered by Vani Vilas Hospital, terminating the pregnancy in the second trimester would amount to risks.

The girl expressed her desire to complete her studies, and had made a plea to the apex court seeking to terminate her pregnancy.
