The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Wednesday, 29 May, questioned senior Kolkata police officer Arnab Ghosh for more than nine hours in connection with the Saradha chit fund scam case at its office in Kolkata’s Salt Lake, reported The Times of India. Another senior officer, Dilip Hazra, did not appear before the investigative agency in Kolkata on Wednesday.

Both Ghosh and Hazra were summoned by the CBI to appear before it on Wednesday.

Ghosh was one of the members of the special investigation team (SIT) that was formed by West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee to probe the Saradha scam before the CBI began investigation at the orders of the Supreme Court in 2014.

On 27 May, former Kolkata police commissioner Rajeev Kumar skipped a meeting with CBI officials, despite being summoned by the agency for questioning in connection with the chit fund scam.

Kumar, in a letter to the investigative agency, sought some more time to appear before its officers and stated that he's on leave. The letter was delivered by West Bengal CID.

The CBI had on Tuesday also grilled another officer of the SIT, Prabhakar Nath, who was the then subordinate of Ghosh.
