Salman Khan has now come out in support of the protesting students from the Film and Television Institute of India (FTII) and added his super stardom to their ongoing strike. At an event in Mumbai on Thursday afternoon, the actor backed students from the film school who have been on strike to protest the appointment of Gajendra Chauhan as the chairman of the film institute.

He (Gajendra Chauhan) should listen to the students. The students have made the industry what it is today.

Filmmaker Kabir Khan too backed the FTII students and criticised the government’s interference in running the film school.

The government really doesn’t need to intrude into certain areas. Unfortunately we do have the government’s involvement in the appointment of the chairperson of this institute. As years progress, they should step out of it and they should be an autonomous institute and be able to take care of itself. Its unfortunate that political appointments are being made in education institutes. I am from a film school and the chairperson and students have a very intimate relationship. You can’t demand respect. You have to command it. In this case the gentleman concerned should have the dignity to step down. Rusticating students is absurd if they are protesting peacefully. They should have the right to express their angst over what they think is not correct.
– Kabir Khan

Salman Khan’s father and scriptwriter Salim Khan too aired his views on the ongoing protest by FTII students by clearly stating that Gajendra Chauhan should step down.

My simple rule is if I am not welcome somewhere I wouldn’t go there. If there is so much opposition so many people don’t want him then he shouldn’t go there.
– Salim Khan
