For Lieutenant Aparna Nair, it was an “honour” to walk on Rajpath as she proudly led the Indian Navy’s march during the 68th Republic Day parade on Thursday.

The Navy contingent comprised 144 young sailors from INS Chilka (Bhubaneswar) who were chosen from among 2,500 trainees.

“We worked really hard to put our best foot forward,” Nair said in an interview before the event.

We never feel that we are not equal to male officers. We are walking ahead and marching with them. Indian Navy believes in giving equal opportunities to all officers irrespective of the gender.

The Indian Navy's tableau showcased the lethal Marine Commandos proceeding for action, the indigenously built Kolkata Class Destroyer and the Kalvari Class next generation attack submarines. It also showcased a model of the P-8I Long Range Maritime Patrol Aircraft.
