The Delhi-Meerut Expressway, which was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on 27 May 2018, is already showing signs of damage due to pre-monsoon showers.

According to ABP, at first, a distinct crack had appeared on the expressway. Later, an entire portion of the road caved in. Working on the reconstruction of the same, the engineers blamed the water trickling in from the drains for dismantling the road.

However, the damage to the expressway underpass was because of poor construction on the part of the engineers. A lot of water seeped in and got accumulated in it, when there were only a few light showers, the report adds.

This has led to a wide-ranging discussions on the quality of work put in the construction of national expressways and other public roads by the concerned ministries.

According to a report by The Times of India, the Delhi-Meerut Expressway had been built at a cost of Rs 841 crore.

Vertical gardens with solar panels on the Yamuna Bridge can also be seen on the expressway, a first in the country.

The Delhi-Meerut Expressway was constructed to reduce the distance and travel time for people commuting between the two cities. It reportedly brought the travel time from four to five hours to forty-five minutes, the report adds.
