 Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah termed her killing ‘a heinous crime’.

The murder of Karnataka-based senior journalist Gauri Lankesh at her residence in Rajarajeshwari Nagar in Bengaluru on Tuesday evening sent the media world in a tizzy. The outspoken editor was shot by unidentified men, following which she succumbed to multiple bullet wounds.

Lankesh was the daughter of writer, translator and journalist P Lankesh. She was the editor of Gauri Lankesh Patrike, a columnist in both Kannada and English, and a vocal critic of the right wing.

Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah termed her killing ‘a heinous crime’.

Politburo member of the CPI(ML) Kavita Krishnan also took to Twitter to condemn Lankesh’s murder, terming it ‘terrorism’.

Journalists and Colleagues Mourn Her Death

Journalists from all across the country took to Twitter to mourn Lankesh’s untimely and shocking departure.


'Pen Is Mightier Than the Sword'

Not only Lankesh’s colleagues, prominent personalities across various fields have also come out to condemn her murder.

Historian and academic Irfan Habib called her murder “terribly scary”.

Usually tongue-in-cheek on Twitter, Ramesh Srivats adorned a sombre mood, and tweeted:

Actress Nandita Das tweeted the time of protest in Mumbai.

Lankesh thought of JNU student leader Kanhaiya Kumar as her ‘adopted son’. She was an avid supporter of student politics.
