A man was booked in Maharashtra for repeatedly raping his 17-year-old niece on the pretext of marriage, reported Hindustan Times.
According to the report, the incident came to light when she was taken to a local hospital after she complained of stomach ache. Later, when she delivered a premature baby in her seventh month, the hospital informed the police as she was a minor.
The Class XI student was living in Pimpri-Chinchwad with her two uncles and grandmother. In May this year, one of her uncles started sexually assaulting her and threatened to kill her if she narrated the incident to anyone. He had also promised to marry her to keep her silent.
The police said the accused was married but his wife had left him. “We are trying to track down the whereabouts of the girl’s parents,” Trupti Borate, Assistant Police Inspector (API) of Dehuroad police station told HT.
The man has been absconding since 25 December when a case under Sections 376 (punishment for sexual assault) and 506 (criminal intimidation) of Indian Penal Code along with Section 4 of Protection of Children from Sexual Offence (POCSO) Act, 2012 was registered against the man at Dehuroad police station under Pimpri-Chinchwad police.
