A railway employee committed suicide on Sunday, 14 April, by jumping from the fourth floor of a residential building she stayed in, in Lucknow’s Alambagh area, reported Times of India.

The police recovered a letter in which the deceased accused two seniors and four colleagues of sexually harassing her in the office. The note has been sent to Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) to examine the handwriting.

The woman was a resident of Nalanda in Bihar and was posted in Lucknow as accounts assistant, according to the Circle Officer of Alambagh police station Sanjeev Sinha, reported the Hindustan Times.

Circle officer Sinha said local residents found out about the alleged suicide after hearing the thud of the victim’s body landing on the ground.

The woman was rushed to a nearby hospital where she was declared dead. “Her family has been informed about the incident,” Sinha added.

In the suicide note, the deceased accused Aditya Shukla, Somesh Mittal, Akash Kumar, Kamlesh Kumar and Awadesh Kumar of harassing her for the past several days. She alleged that she was made to run outside for the work of her colleagues. She also alleged that her colleagues sang indecent songs aimed at her and maligned her image among other railway staffers.

Sinha said the letter was “strong evidence” to book the accused under charges of abetment to suicide.
