1. BMC Will Ensure Gymkhana Gives Up Land

The Bombay Gymkhana, which has been dodging pressure from the BMC for over a year to part with a portion of its acres for developing amenity for the public, will now have no option but to bend.

Municipal commissioner Ajoy Mehta and his officers have put a reservation in the new Development Plan (DP) to take over a part of the tony club's land for widening a footpath for pedestrians. Mumbai Mirror was the first to report about the BMC's plan to seize Bombay Gymkhana's land for developing a canopied pedestrian plaza from CST subway to Fashion Street. In a series of reports since last year, this paper highlighted the tussle between the civic body and the club, which doesn't want to part with its space.
