Upping its demand for the construction of the Ram temple in Ayodhya, Shiv Sena President Uddhav Thackeray on Tuesday announced a ‘Dharma Sabha’ in the temple town of Pandharpur on 24 December.

The Dharma Sabha (religious convention) is intended to push its ruling NDA ally, Bharatiya Janata Party, to immediately declare the date for the construction of the Ram temple.

“Through the Dharma Sabha, we want to wake up the Narendra Modi government from its Kumbhakaran-like slumber and take up the Ram temple construction immediately,” Thackeray told media persons.

The Pune police have very little in their charge sheet against the five Left-leaning activists arrested in August so far as the two most sensational charges made against them – a plot to assassinate the prime minister and the role they played in inciting violence at Bhima Koregaon in January that left one person dead and several others injured.

The charge sheet quotes more or less the same evidence that the Pune police had spoken of at a press conference after the arrests – an email written by a certain ‘R’ to Comrade Prakash on 18 April 2017 talking of a “Rajiv Gandhi-type” operation; and a series of speeches that led to the violence at Bhima Koregaon.

The Bombay High Court on Wednesday said it will hear the Public Interest Litigation (PIL), filed by a lawyer seeking a stay on the state’s decision to grant reservation to the Maratha community, on10 December. The PIL was filed by advocate Jishri Patil seeking to quash and set aside the notification published by the Government of Maharashtra on 30 November, 2018, to provide 16 per cent reservation to the Maratha community, which the petition alleges, amounts to a breach of Articles 14 and 21of the Constitution and Supreme Court rulings.

7. Paw-sitive Change: Lions, hyenas, blackbucks in Mumbai's Byculla zoo by mid 2019

By mid-2019, Mumbaikars visiting the Veermata Jijabai Bhosale Udyan and zoo will be able to spot lions, hyenas, and blackbucks to name a few in their well-designed enclosures, the zoo officials have assured.

The Byculla zoo has long been criticised for being one of the worst zoo with badly maintained enclosures, zero enrichment, housing very few and that too old animals. The zoo was even termed dead and a cruel place for animals to live. While officials claimed that everything about the zoo, including people's perception about the zoo, will change from next year, it only remains to be seen if their claims hold their ground.
