1. BMC to Pump More Crores To Ease Flooding Woes At Hindmata
After spending crores to tackle the flooding issue at Hindmata in Parel, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) is spending another Rs 13.65 crore for an overhaul of the area's British-era drainage network in the next 18 months. It has already appointed a contractor to reconstruct the dilapidated arch-shaped drain passing through the area.

The god-woman consulted psychiatrist Dr Yusuf Matcheswala at Byculla-based Masina Hospital last week.
A flamboyant god-woman, known as much for her bedecked look as her trance-like dancing with her followers, has been diagnosed with bi-polar disorder.
The god-woman, her cult largely built around massive hoardings in Mumbai announcing her 'divyadarshans' and controversial satsangs where followers often carry her in their arms, consulted psychiatrist Dr Yusuf Matcheswala at Byculla-based Masina Hospital last week.

3. Mumbai University Changes Exam Timetable After Students Protest
Soon after a group of students staged a protest outside the Mumbai University's examination section, demanding postponement of the law examination, as the dates were clashing with that of the CS exam, the varsity released a new timetable with changes. However, these changes have not gone down well with a section of law students, who will not appear for the CA exam. They are of the opinion that these constant changes were creating a lot of confusion and delaying the process further.

4. Mumbai-Nagpur Expressway: MSRDC Wants Rules Relaxed To Begin The Tendering Process
In the face of increasing protests from farmers unwilling to part with their land for the proposed Mumbai-Nagpur super communication expressway, the Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC) has approached the state government for relaxation in rules to begin the tendering process. MSRDC has sought the State’s permission to float tenders once the 50 per cent land required for the project is acquired.
This is conflict with a rule made by the state government in August last year, mandating acquisition of 100 per cent land before floating tenders. This was done since delays in land acquisition lead to cost and time overruns.

6. 7,000 ‘Dead’ Cars Eat Up 20 Acres Of Mumbai Roads
BMC towed away 6,413 abandoned cars that littered the streets between Jan 2016 and Aug 2017; another 605 are still occupying premium road space.
While an average Mumbaikar has to pay through the nose to be able to park on the streets, around 7,000 abandoned vehicles have been eating up space on the roads for free over the past two years. As each vehicle takes up around 124 sq ft, this adds up to around 20 acres of precious space that these ‘dead’ cars have been occupying.

7. ‘How Can The Mayor Live Inside A Zoo?’
Mumbai’s first citizen, Vishwanath Mahadeshwar, on the mayoral residence controversy and the state’s growing interference in the BMC’s functioning.
Eight months after he became the mayor of Mumbai, Vishwanath Mahadeshwar is still looking for a home for himself. As importantly, with work on the Bal Thackeray memorial set to begin soon at the site of his current residence, the mayor’s bungalow at Shivaji Park, the Shiv Sena leader will be virtually homeless. The BMC wants Mahadeshwar to occupy a civic bungalow inside the Byculla zoo, but, in a freewheeling chat with Mumbai Mirror, Mahadeshwar said that such a thing will not happen. Instead, he wants the civic body to convert its bungalow in Malabar Hill, which currently houses bureaucrat Praveen Darade, believed to be CM Devendra Fadnavis’s man, and his wife Pallavi, into the mayoral residence.

BMC plans to install models of Seven Wonders of the World at Joseph Baptista public garden.
Mumbaikars will soon be able to behold the Seven Wonders of the World together at the same place, that too right in the heart of the city.
The BMC has chalked out a plan to install miniature models of the Seven Wonders of the World at a Mazagaon garden, which is already a major attraction for the city dwellers for its sprawling greens and beautiful view of the sea.

9. Co-op Hsg Societies Can Now Invest In MFs, Shares
More than one lakh cooperative housing societies (CHS) in the state will now be able to invest in mutual funds and shares after the central government's recent notification for amending section 20 of Indian Trust Act 1882.
The cooperative housing societies are governed by the Maharashtra State Cooperative Societies Act 1960. The Act clearly says that a cooperative housing society can invest its funds in cooperative bank or securities described under the Trust Act.
