1. Teenager Murders Friend for Ransom

Police in Chandigarh arrested a youth for the murder of his 16-year-old friend.

The victim, identified as Anmol, staged his own kidnapping to extort Rs 10,000 from his father for purchasing a new mobile phone, along with his friend Gurpreet.

Gurpreet thought of extorting even more money from the family to buy a luxury car and called to demand Rs 50 lakh. Fearing arrest, he ended up stabbing Anmol and disposed his body in a canal.

The accused has been sent to three-day judicial remand.

2. Police Official Molests 6-Year-Old in a Bus

Haryana Police in Chandigarh took into custody an official who allegedly tried to molest a 6-year-old girl on board a bus.

Identified as sub-inspector Ram Pal, he was beaten up by people who caught him, before being taken into custody.

The girl had boarded the bus headed to Karnal from Jind with her mother and younger sibling when the police officer took her onto his lap and tried to be inappropriate with her.

3. Airline Crew Member Held with 2 Cr Gold in Mumbai

On Saturday night, a Kenyan Airlines crew member was held for the alleged smuggling of 7.5 kgs of gold, worth Rs 2.25 crore, in Mumbai.

The bust was done by the Anti-Narcotics bureau who had received a tip-off about the delivery of a drug consignment near a hotel in Sahar, where they laid the trap.

Teddy Murthee was found at the spot, where no drugs were recovered but the police found the gold. Murthee was unable to furnish documents about the gold or any proof to show it belonged to him.

4. Teen Stabbed to Death After Birthday Party

A 17-year-old was found stabbed to death, allegedly by a beer bottle, by his friends in the upmarket Ballygunge area of Kolkata.

Identified as Aabesh Dasgupta, the preliminary police probe revealed the motive of the altercation as the fallout of a love triangle between two friends and a celebrity’s daughter. One of the victim’s friends has been detained while the rest fled the spot.

However, no formal complaint has been filed yet and the police have registered a case of unnatural death.

Blood splatter suggested that Aabesh tried to drag himself to get help after being attacked, even as he was declared brought dead to the hospital.

5. Woman Raped by Two on Pretext of Job

Police on Sunday said that a woman was allegedly raped by two people on the pretext of helping her get a job in a factory in Mathura.

Identified as Shyam Sundar Kardam and Gopi Chand, the two men raped the 35-year-old Faridabad resident in a hotel.

Kardam, a former BSP local leader, had contested 2014 Lok Sabha election as an Independent candidate. However, Sangh Ratan Sethi, former district president of BSP, has denied Kardam’s association with the party.

6. Couple Killed in Alleged ‘Honour’ Killing in Meerut

A boy was found in a girl’s room by the latter’s family members and both were killed in an alleged case of ‘honour’ killing in Shamli, Meerut.

Identified as Mayank and Rachna, both of them belonged to the same caste. Mayank had allegedly snuck into Rachna’s house late at night. When her father Mukesh found them, he murdered them in a fit of rage.

Police have arrested five people, including Rachna’s brother Deepak, who helped his father in the crime.

After the incident occurred, Mukesh went to the police and narrated the incident. The duo claimed they had no regrets over the crime as their family’s name had been “defamed” by Rachna.

7. Five Dalits Attacked Over Cow Slaughter

A group of five Dailts were attacked in Karnataka’s Chikkamagaluru district by a Hindutva group, who claimed they had stolen and subsequently slaughtered a cow.

Two of the victims suffered fractures and claimed that the incident took place on 10 July in front of the police, but only came to light on 23 July.

The men were all sitting for dinner, which included beef dishes, at one of their homes. A group of 25 men entered and claimed that the cow had been stolen and slaughtered, refusing the victim’s claims that it had been given to them by a resident of Shantipura village.

Three of the men were arrested by the police while two escaped. They were later released on bail after which one of them filed a case against seven men, however no arrests have been made so far.

8. Elderly Woman Murdered, Rs 10 Lakh Missing

A 63-year-old woman was found murdered on Sunday and Rs 10 lakh in cash was missing from her house in Delhi’s Lajpat Nagar area.

The deceased Vimla Ahuja’s body was found lying in a pool of blood by her son in their residence at about 4 pm.

The woman was apparently hit on the head with a blunt object. Her son told the police that Rs 10 lakh in cash, which was kept guarded in a locker in her room, was also discovered missing.

9. Woman, Lover Held for Murder of Husband

A woman and her lover have been arrested for the murder of the former’s 37-year-old husband in Farikdot, Punjab.

Identified as Rajinder Kumar, the deceased’s body was found earlier in the week with injury marks over it. Kumar was allegedly killed by his wife Pooja Rani and her lover Gurtej Singh, as he came to know of their adulterous relationship.

He was killed using sharp weapons while he was returning home on 15 July.

Kumar and Rani have two children together.
