1. Two Teens Gangraped in Delhi’s Aman Vihar, Police Arrest Four Suspects

Delhi Police arrested on Thursday four of five youth, who allegedly gangraped two teenage girls in Delhi’s Aman Vihar area the night before.

The victims, aged 17 and 18, were with two male friends at an isolated spot near Mundka metro station in outer Delhi’s Kirari, when they were assaulted late on Wednesday, police said.

The youth beat up the accompanying boys and scared them away before they took turns raping their victims. Four of the suspects were identified and arrested by Thursday night.

The fifth, though identified by police, is on the run.

2. Supreme Court Sets Aside Death in Soumya Murder Case

The Supreme Court on Thursday set aside the death sentence imposed on the accused in the ‘Soumya murder case’ but confirmed the sentence of life imprisonment for the brutal manner he raped Soumya, before she jumped out of the train resulting in her death.

A three-judge Bench comprising Justices Ranjan Gogoi, Prafulla C Pant and Uday Lalit gave this verdict on an appeal filed by death-row convict Govindachamy, challenging the High Court judgement confirming the order of the Thrissur Fast Track Court awarding him death sentence for the 6 February 2011 incident.

The prosecution case was that Gonvidachamy pushed Soumya out of the compartment of the Ernakulam train after trying to rob her. He then raped the seriously injured woman, who died on 6 Februay 2011.

3. Salesman Shot for Refusing Liquor at Night

A 30-year-old liquor salesman was shot by two bike-borne criminals on Wednesday night in Shahberi village in Bisrakh area of Greater Noida. The accused fled from the spot after the crime. The victim has been identified as Kapil Kumar.

Police said that the incident took place around 11 pm. The salesman was closing the shop as it was already late. “Two criminals came on a motorcycle at the shop. They demanded the salesman to serve liquor.

The victim refused saying it was late and he had already put the shutter down,” said police. The criminals, who seemed already drunk, got angry.

4. 23-Year-Old Woman Hacked to Death by Jilted Man in Coimbatore

A 23-year-old engineer was allegedly hacked to death in Coimbatore by a spurned man, who later tried to commit suicide by consuming poison, police said on Thursday.

The accused, identified only as Zahir, hails from Kerala and was working in a mill at Tiruppur in Tamil Nadu, which has been rocked by similar incidents of stalking and murderous assaults over spurned advances.

In 2013, India made stalking a crime with punishment up to three years in jail but harassment of women leading to tragic incidents continues to take place across the country. According to police sources, the victim S Dhanya was alone when the accused had allegedly entered her house and hacked her to death on Wednesday.

The incident took place around 8 pm. Dhanya’s body was found later by her mother Sharada.

5. Girl Brutally Murdered in Jaipur; Jilted Lover Arrested

A 21-year old girl pursuing Masters in Fashion Designing at a leading college in Jaipur was brutally murdered by a 22-year-boy pursuing MBA late on Wednesday evening in Vidhyadhar locality.

With the activeness of the family members, people living in the neighbourhood and police, the accused was arrested 6 hours after the murder on Thursday morning.

Police said that it was a clear case in which the jilted lover was envious of the fact that the girl had started seeing another boy.

According to police sources, the girl identified as Harshita Gupta, pursuing Masters in Fashion Designing from a reputed college in Mansarover and residing in Khandelwal Towers in Vidhadhar Nagar, had left her home at 6:30 pm on Wednesday.

6. Hyderabad: Guard Found Dead in Pool of Blood

A 35-year-old security guard working at the Blue Fox Restaurant died under suspicious circumstances. Hotel staff found the guard, Sheikh Ibrahim, lying in a pool of blood and informed his family.

Police said Ibrahim joined the restaurant as a security guard three months ago. On Wednesday evening, he left home to work in the night shift. He was deployed on the third floor of the hotel. Early on Thursday around 3 am, the field officer of the hotel noticed Ibrahim’s body lying in a pool of blood.

He immediately called Ibrahim’s wife, Rashmi, and informed her about the incident. Based on her complaint, a suspicious death case was registered at the SR Nagar police station.

7. Two Arrested for Robbing Truck Carrying 900 IPhones Worth Rs 2.25 Crore

The Delhi Police on Wednesday arrested two people for allegedly robbing a truck carrying over 900 iPhones of the 5s series worth Rs 2.25 crore.

The incident was reported from South Delhi’s Vasant Kunj area. Police have also seized an Eeco car used in the crime. While two men – Mehtab Alam, 24 and Arman, 22 – have been arrested, Bhola, Rahul and Jitender managed to escape.

According to police sources, the robbery was pre-planned as Bhola used to work with the company that transported the mobile phones to retail shops and had left the job only two weeks ago.

According to police, the iPhones – the retail price for one is Rs 25,000 – were being transported on an Eicher Canter from Beetel Company in Okhla to Mudita Express Cargo in Dwarka Sector-28, when the robbers struck.

8. Schoolgirl Found Gagged, Bound in Ujjain, Alleges Gangrape

A schoolgirl visiting Ujjain from Rajasthan with her father was abducted five days ago and was found on the road gagged and tied by Ujjain Police on Thursday. She alleged that she was gangraped and held captive in a room.

The incident came to light on the morning when a police patrolling team found the 15-year-old girl with her hands tied in Nazar Ali Mill Compound area. She was rushed to Charak Hospital, where she was being treated.

The girl told the police that she was abducted by two men and a woman in a van from Dewas Gate area on 9 September.

9. Karnataka: 10 Suspended over False Sexual Harassment Case

A false sexual harassment case filed by a woman assistant engineer of HESCOM at the instigation of nine of her colleagues against Executive Engineer of HESCOM TB Majjagi led to the suspension of all 10 of them in Belagavi.

The Karnataka Power Transmission Corporation Limited (KPTCL) Administrative and Human Resource Cell suspended the employees in connection with complaints of sexual harassment, mental torture and abetment to suicide filed in December 2014 by assistant engineer BV Sindhu.

She had filed complaints against Majjagi with the support of nine of her colleagues in an attempt to get the latter transferred from Belagavi region. The complaint had taken a serious turn with several women’s organisations exerting pressure on government to initiate stringent action against Majjagi.
