1. Sunanda Pushkar Murder Case: Delhi Police Re-Examines Tharoor’s Driver and Domestic Help

The Delhi Police have re-examined Congress MP Shashi Tharoor’s driver and domestic help. Both of them were with Tharoor’s wife Sunanda Pushkar, hours before she was found dead in a five-star hotel in New Delhi in 2014.

According to a Hindustan Times report, the special investigation team launched another round of questioning in the Sunanda Pushkar murder case last week to try and file a chargesheet before Delhi Police chief BS Bassi retires in February-end.

Sources said that Bassi wanted the investigation to progress to the next level before he retired. Last Thursday the SIT had questioned five people, including the family’s driver Bajrangi, domestic help Narayan Singh and a chemist from Lodhi Colony area near the hotel.

2. Ammunition Cache Found Dumped in Pathankot Canal

A cache of ammunition was found dumped in Upper Bari Doab canal at Malikpur which has been on high alert since the Pathankot air base attack that took place in January.

A few boys, who were bathing in the canal accidentally found the ammunition, the police said.

“As the water level was low, the boys discovered the ammunition lying at the bottom of the canal and then they raised an alarm,” Pathankot DSP (Rural) Kuldeep Singh said. Two magazines along with 59 live cartridges of AK-47 rifle, two magazines and 29 live cartridges of INSAS rifle and 16 rounds and two shells of .315 rifle were recovered, he said.

The DSP of Pathankot has said that investigations are underway and security has already been stepped up.

3. Minor Rape Victim Undergoing Treatment at Hospital Raped Again

A 15-year-old rape victim, undergoing treatment at the government-run MGM Hospital in Jamshedpur, was allegedly raped by a security guard in the hospital premises on Sunday night.

The police had arrested and forwarded a boy to a remand home after the victim alleged he had raped her in Parsudih, on the outskirts of the steel city here, a couple of days ago.

Following this, the girl was admitted to the hospital by the police. The minor was then allegedly raped by a private security guard on duty in the hospital on Sunday night, police said.

4. SP MLA Booked for the Murder of a Dalit

An FIR has been registered against Samajwadi Party MLA Sunil Kumar Lala, two police officer and 12 other people in connection with the murder of a dalit man in June 2014

The FIR which was registered by the Maigalganj police station has charged the 15 accused of murder, theft, criminal intimidation and SC/ST Act based on a complaint filed by victim Padum Singh’s mother Gangajali, reports The Indian Express.

The two officers who have been booked for the murder were station officers of Maigalganj during the encounter. No arrests have been made so far, police said.

5. Teenage Girl Gangraped and Murdered in Rajasthan

A teenaged girl was allegedly gangraped and murdered in Dholpur in Rajasthan. Following this incident the villagers staged a protest demanding immediate arrested of the accused, police said on Sunday night.

The body of the 14-year-old girl was found lying in an agricultural farm this evening. She had gone missing after she went to the farm with her father.

6. AMU Student Shot At Near Campus; Critically Wounded

A law student at the Aligarh Muslim University was shot at and critically wounded by nine people at Shamshad Market, adjoining the university campus.

AMU spokesperson Rahat Abrar said that Mohammad Khalid, the victim was returning to his hostel after a students’ meeting to discuss the issue of minority character of AMU when the assailants on separate bikes opened fire at him.

7. Ryan International School Student Dies, Autopsy Hints at Drowning

The preliminary post-mortem reports about the death of six-year-old Divyansh, who was a student of the first standard in Ryan International School in Vasant Kunj, point to drowning, sources said on Sunday.

Young Divyansh was found in a water tank on the school premises on Saturday, The Indian Express reports.

Doctors from AIIMS will be visiting the school on Monday to examine the pit where he was found. Although the autopsy report has found “features of drowning”, sources said that doctors have requested the police to examine the school premises before giving the final report.

The post-mortem conducted pointed to asphyxiation being the probable cause of death. Aspiration of fluid was observed in the airway passage and lungs, indicating the child was completely submerged under water and ended up inhaling a lot of water before the body floated up.

8. TMC Leader Arrested for Possessing Unlicensed Weapons at Airport

A Trinamul Congress leader of the Burdwan zilla parishad was arrested from Kolkata airport on Sunday with a revolver and three cartridges.

The Telegraph has reported that Narendranath Chakraborty, who’s the zilla parishad functionary in charge of agriculture in Burdwan, was to take a SpiceJet flight to Chennai.

The gun and the bullets were found when his luggage was scanned by CISF personnel. Officials said that a flier on a domestic plane must have a licence to be able to carry a gun and also have to specify to the airline the reasons to carry the weapon.

9. Two Maoist Leaders Killed in Alleged Bastar Encounter

Two Maoists leaders were killed in an alleged encounter with the police in the Bastar region of Chhattisgarh, on Sunday, reports The Hindu.

According to SRP Kalluri, who is the Inspector General of Police, Bastar range, was dispatched by Sukma Superintendent of Police D Srawan to Kistaram based on information provided by intelligence agencies about the presence of Maoists.

Dead bodies of the two Maoists were recovered after a fierce gunfight took place between the police and the Maoists near Vanjalvala village.

The two have been identified as Dusra Dharma, president of the ‘Revolutionary People’s Committee’ and Vetti Raju, president of the Dankaranya Kisan Majdoor Sangh.
