1. Mother Kills 3-Year-Old Son as His Cries Anger Lover in Mumbai

A 35-year-old woman from Ambernath allegedly killed her three-year-old son on Monday after his continuous crying irritated her lover.

The accused – Bharti Shinde – was arrested by Hill Line police, while her lover and live-in partner, Vishal Kumar, is at large. On Monday evening, when Bharti, who does odd jobs, was getting ready for work, her son Aniket started crying at their place in Bhal Village in Ambernath.

Hearing him cry, Vishal got angry and shouted at Bharti, who in frustration came out of the house.

Bharti then told Vishal to hold Aniket’s hands and legs, after which she kicked him brutally on his chest fracturing his five ribs. After sometime, he and Vishal went to sleep while Bharti left for work.

2. 5 Kg of Heroin Seized From 2 Smugglers

The Narcotics Control cell of the district police has busted a three-member gang of smugglers by arresting two of its members.

On a tip-off, a police team led by inspector Sunil Kumar, incharge of the Narcotic Control cell at Thathi Jaimal Singh village in Haryana, signalled an SUV to stop for checking.

During the search, the police team seized 5 kg heroin, Rs 32 lakh in old Indian currency, a 9 mm pistol, 100 rounds of different bores and a computerised weighbridge. The consignment is worth Rs 25 crore in the international market.

The police have also taken the SUV that the accused were driving into custody.

3. Man Kills Wife, Stuffs Body in Suitcase

A 35-year-old man from Vithalwadi in Ulhasnagar has been arrested for allegedly killing his wife, a bar dancer.

The police said that the accused, Rajesh Khan, had stabbed Jamila with some sharp weapon. “Khan has confessed to killing Jamila. He claims he murdered her because she was involved with many men,” said senior inspector Surendra Shirshat of Vithalwadi police station.

A police officer said that after killing Jamila, Khan stuffed the body into a suitcase. He then called up his friend Shafiullah Shaikh and told him about the murder and also asked him to dispose of the body. Shaikh, however, alerted the police.

4. Rapes in Maharashtra Tribal School: Main Accused Confesses

Weeks after a 10-year-old student was suspected to have been sexually exploited in a tribal boarding school in Buldhana district, the main accused, the school’s sweeper, has confessed to the crime. A total of 15 people were arrested in the case.

Sources said the sweeper confessed before the police that he raped two of the three girls who filed a complaint.

Meanwhile, medical reports of the two girls received by the police clearly indicate both of them were raped, sources confirmed.

5. Two Murder Accused Held After 34 Years

Two murder accused that had been absconding for the past 34 years after allegedly killing a woman were caught on Tuesday.

Police got going when the session court issued non-bailable warrant against the duo and also reprimanded them for their lackadaisical attitude.

Ram Khilawan and Ram Khilawan Pasi, both residents of Manohar Ki Bagiya, had allegedly attacked one Munni Bano in 1978.

6. Man Sentenced to 4 Years for Theft at House of Actor's Kin

A sessions court sentenced a man to four years’ imprisonment for theft at the residence of actor Bhagyashree’s parents-in-law in 2014.

Sanjaykumar Nishad was convicted under Section 328 (Causing hurt by means of poison, etc, with intent to commit an offence) Wednesday.

Nishad, who worked as a domestic help at the residence of the actor’s in-laws in Vile Parle, was also charged under Sections 307 (attempt to murder), 380 (theft) and 120 (criminal conspiracy) but was acquitted of these charges.

Three others, booked in the case as Nishad’s accomplices, were acquitted of all charges.

7. Two Men Found Murdered in Kollam

In a suspected case of murder, the wounded bodies of two men were found in an abandoned tile factory near Soundarya Junction at Perayam near Kundara here by the police on Tuesday evening. The police identified the deceased as Surendran and Suku, both neighbours as well as relatives, residing at Perayam here.

Kundara circle-inspector Ramesh said that the bodies were found in the factory around 5pm. There are injuries on the bodies which suggests that they were beaten up using the interlocking tiles in the factory. Injuries suffered on the heads are suspected to be the cause of death of both the men, he said.

8. Gender Test Racket Busted, Two Held

A team of the district Health Department busted a sex-determination test racket in the city yesterday.

Civil Surgeon Dr Vinod Gupta said the department got a tip-off about illicit activities regarding pre-natal sex determination by an ultrasound centre in Ambala and also found that a tout, Jagtar, a resident of Kalarheri in the district, was involved in getting sex determination tests done.

Following the information, the tout was contacted and a deal was struck for Rs 24,000, he said.

9. Newly-Wed Woman Found Murdered, Husband Detained

A 24-year-old woman, who was married barely five months ago, was found brutally killed at her bungalow at Dhayari, off Sinhagad road, on Tuesday evening.

Pooja Bhadawale's body had a deep injury in the neck and major blows on both hands. Her husband, Swapnil, who is in the construction business, called the police around 5:30pm.

However, the police later detained Swapnil for questioning.
