1. New Twist in Sapphire International School Murder Case

A tracker dog, pressed into service at Sapphire International School sniffed his way from the deceased student, Binay Kumar Mahto’s hostel room to the residential quarters of a lady teacher where Mahto’s body was found bludgeoned to death on Friday.

According to The Telegraph, Mahanta, the police labrador was made to sniff the victim’s clothes after which he took the shortest route to the teachers’ hostel, which is 750 metres away. Instead of the entrance, where the boy was found in a pool of blood, Mahanta went up and stopped in front of the lady teacher’s room.

Assistant Superintendent of Police, Prashant Anand did not comment on the new twist to the murder case but conceded that the Hindi teach was not among the 15 teaching and non-teaching staff who have been interviewed.

“No conclusions can be drawn. We are probing all possible angles,” he said.

2. Man Stabbed 47 Times, 3 Juveniles Arrested

Delhi Police arrested three juveniles for murdering a 25-year-old man by stabbing him 47 times, in northeast Delhi’s Nand Nagri area.

According to the police, one of the juveniles is the victim’s brother who allegedly paid Rs 20, 000 to the other two juveniles to kill his brother. He wanted to take revenge because his brother used to beat up his mother and always quarrelled in the house.

The incident occurred on February 3. The victim’s body was discovered by a security guard in a DDA park about a km away from the brothers’ house.

We are in the process of writing to the Juvenile Justice Board urging them to act in view of the amended Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act 2015 under which juveniles over 16 years can be treated like adults.

3. Murdered DU Student wasn’t Pregnant: Autopsy Report

The initial autopsy report of the 21-year-old DU student, Arzoo Singh Chauhan, who was allegedly murdered by her boyfriend on February 2 has ascertained that she was not pregnant at the time she was killed, reports The Hindustan Times.

The postmortem report suggests that she died of asphyxia almost four days before her body was found.

During questioning the 22-year-old accused Naveen Khatri told the police that he didn’t intended to murder Arzoo Singh, and confessed that it all happened in a fit of rage.

He also told the police that Arzoo kept threatening to tell his family members about their secret meetings and come to the wedding venue on the day of his marriage and create a scene.

Police said:

He said Arzoo got very hostile and started to slap and punch him while he was driving the car and as a reaction he punched her face and then strangled her using her dupatta.

4. Four Suspected Members of the Notorious Chaddi-Baniyan Gang Arrested in Mumbai

Four suspected members of the notorious ‘Chaddi Baniyan’ gang were arrested in the wee hours of Tuesday in a an encounter with police after they robbed an elderly couple in suburban area of Mumbai’s Borivali.

Three police personnel were injured in the encounter.

The Indian Express reports, a police officer on patrol duty noticed some suspicious movement on a road at around 3.30 am, following which a police team then started a search operation.

The accused, who were hiding in nearby bushes, fired at the cops. The policemen also fired at them in retaliation and succeeded in nabbing four gang members after a long search operation, a police official said.

The four accused sustained injuries in the encounter and were admitted to a hospital in Borivali.

5. Pet Dog Tintin Scares off Girl’s Stalkers, 3 Arrested

A pet dog named Tintin turned out to be the saviour for a Class XII girl in Salt Lake in Kolkata where three stalkers tried to drag her io a construction site when the two of them were taking a stroll near their home around 11 pm, reported The Telegraph.

Tintin wouldn’t stop growling and barking when two of the stalkers attempted to lift the girl while another muffled her from behind.

The commotion created by the dog alerted the girl’s father and several neighbours, forcing the assailants to let go of her as one door after another opened along the lane.

Two of the three accused were caught after the shocked girl was escorted back into her home by her parents. The third was arrested at Ultadanga railway station on Sunday. The girl has since identified all three, the police said.

6. Nursery Boy Drowns in Septic Tank, Mother Grieves on the Lack of Police’s Interest

Around the same time as reports of Devyansh Kakrora’s drowning case filled up all news channels, fifve year old Ankit Kumar fell and drowned in a open septic tank of an MCD primary school in the Kapashera area of Delhi.

As per preliminary investigation, the principal and for non-teaching staff of the school were charged of negligence. However they were released on bail the same day.

A chargesheet is to be filed in three weeks’ time.

7. Child Dies in Celebratory Firing by Samajwadi Party Members in UP

Police arrested three people on Monday after a child died in an alleged celebratory firing by Samajwadi Party workers in Uttar Paradesh’s Shamli district on Sunday.

The Hindu reported that Vijay Bhushan, Superintendent of Police, Shamli, confirmed that three people were arrested in connection with the death of eight-year-old Sami.

As the State government drew severe criticism from several quarters, CM Akhilesh Yadav ordered the arrest of the SP functionaries responsible for the tragedy on Monday afternoon. He also suspended senior district administrative officials for their alleged carelessness that led to the boy’s death.

8. Notorious Criminal Dies in a Game of Russian Roulette

A notorious criminal Ram Meher alias Rambir died at his friend’s house in west Delhi in a game of Russian roulette that went dreadfully wrong.

The Times of India reported that after questioning those present at the fatal shooting, police determined that an inebriated Rambir killed himself while trying to impress his friends.

Rambir had been drinking at his friend’s house in Uttamnagar and allegedly whipped out his revolver and challenged his friends to play the “game of death”.

Scared out of their wits Rambir’s company vanished from the scene, leaving the police to respond to a report about a shooting.

9. Doctor Arrested for Conducting Sex Determination Test

A doctor conducting a sex determination test at the Bhatnagar Hospital in Gurgaon was caught red-handed on Sunday.

Civil Surgeon Ramesh Dhankhar said the authorities had received a tip-off about the test being conducted at Bhatnagar Hospital, The Hindu reported.

Acting on the tip-off, a team was sent as a decoy customer to Krishna, who works as the Lady Health Visitor (LHV) at the Primary Health Center who allegedly demanded Rs. 20,000 for getting the test done.

After the amount was paid, Krishna took the decoy customer to Bhatnagar Hospital where one Renu, a receptionist, conducted an ultrasound on the foetus in violation of the Pre-Conception and Pre-Natal Diagnostic Techniques (PNDT) Act.

Mandatory norms such as registering the patient and filling Form-F before an ultrasonography were not adhered to.

The accused was nabbed once the receptionist started conducting the ultrasound.
