1. Businessman Returning Home with ₹2 Lakh Shot Dead by Robbers

A 44-year-old businessman returning from his electronics showroom with the day’s cash collection of Rs 2 lakh was shot dead by two bikers outside his house at a gated colony in northeast Delhi’s Jyoti Nagar on Monday night, in what appears to have been an abortive robbery attempt.

The men fled with his gold chain but couldn’t take the cash bag hanging from a hook on his scooter, which could only be taken by lifting the seat.

Family members of the victim, Rajul Gupta, heard him call for help and came out to find him lying at the entrance gate with his scooter over his legs. They took him to hospital suspecting he had suffered heart failure. However, doctors found a bullet had entered his left shoulder and damaged his vital organs, leading to death.

2. 13-Year-Old Boy Stabs Teacher to Death in Mumbai

A 13-year-old boy stabbed his 30-year-old school teacher multiple times at her house in Mumbai on Monday evening. The teacher, Aisha Aslam Husiya, died a few hours later in hospital. Police said there was an argument between the teacher and the boy’s mother, but they are also looking at other motives, reports Ahmed Ali. Aisha’s colleague said the boy was pulled up for not finishing his homework.

3. 20-Year-Old Homeless Woman Gang-Raped Near Indraprastha Park

A 20-year-old homeless woman was allegedly gangraped by two men near the Indraprastha Park in south Delhi on Sunday night.

The police said the woman, who claimed she is a graduate from south India, was begging for alms near the Sarai Kale Khan bus stand for the past few months.

The police said they are trying to trace her family and are also on the lookout for the unidentified suspects.

The woman was incoherent at the hospital, but told them that she is from a southern state and a graduate.

4.60-Year-Old Woman Held for Selling Heroin

A 60-year-old woman has been arrested from south Delhi’s Tigri for allegedly selling heroin. Thirty six grams of the contraband has been recovered from her.

According to police, the woman claimed she had been selling drugs for a living after her four sons were jailed for their involvement in criminal cases.

Police were tracking the source of heroin. They said in all, there were 40 criminal cases against her family members and they had all gone to jail separately at least 24 times. Deputy commissioner of police (south) Atul Thakur said they received information on Monday about a woman selling heroin.

5. 2 Cops Booked for ‘Torture’ of Pregnant Woman, Her Sisters

Assam police on Tuesday booked two of its personnel for allegedly torturing, stripping and assaulting a pregnant woman and her two sisters inside a police outpost in Darrang district last week. The woman claimed to have suffered a miscarriage because of the assault.

Kuladhar Saikia, Assam’s director general of police,said, “A criminal case has been registered under relevant sections of the law against the in-charge of the police outpost, and the woman constable named in the complaint. Both of them have been placed under suspension.”

The action was taken after the sisters approached some media outlets on Tuesday alleging that the police had not taken any action for eight days on their complaint against the two personnel.

6. 5 Held for Rape of Muzaffarpur Shelter Home’s Former Inmate

The Bihar police on Monday night arrested five people accused of raping an 18-year-old woman, who was an inmate of a Muzaffarpur shelter home.

The woman, who had stayed only for a couple of days at the shelter home, was allegedly gang raped in a moving vehicle in Bettiah last Friday.

The alleged crime came to light on Sunday after the woman filed a police complaint. The woman lives with her mother at a rented accommodation in Bettiah. The woman’s father is a fruit vendor in Nepal. Bettiah police superintendent Jayant Kant said three of the accused were named in the woman’s complaint. “Search for one Dinanath Kumar is still on. Four persons have confessed to their crime and they will be sent to jail,” said Kant.

7. Uttar Pradesh: Dalit Youth Killed, Ailing Mother Dead, Accused Says ‘Did it for Honour’

The two fathers are neighbours but couldn’t be further apart. Mithilesh Pal, a Dalit, is at home, alone, ill and grieving, after cremating his wife and 23-year-old son the same day. The other, Radhey Gupta, an OBC, is in a police station lock-up 8 km away along with his wife and daughter — for killing the 23-year-old by allegedly tying him to a charpoy and setting him on fire, to save his family’s “honour”.

On Sunday, Abhishank Pal (23), fondly called Monu, was killed by family members of Shivani Gupta, with whom he was reportedly in a relationship with, in what police said was an honour killing. Abhishank was on his way to the hospital where his mother Rambeti (56) was admitted when Shivani’s father and two associates caught him, tied to the charpoy and set him on fire. Five persons, including two women, are accused, and three have been arrested.

8. Assam: Three Sisters Stripped and Beaten at Outpost, 2 Cops Suspended

Three sisters have accused the Assam police of custodial torture, including being stripped, kicked and beaten with lathis, inside a police outpost in Darrang district. The women were picked up after a case was registered against their brother, a Muslim, for allegedly abducting a Hindu woman.

Assam DGP Kuladhar Saikia told The Indian Express the outpost in-charge sub-inspector Mahendra Sarma and a woman constable Binita Boro were suspended Tuesday and criminal cases registered against them. He has also asked for an inquiry into their allegations within a week.

The cases were registered days after one sister, on September 10, wrote a detailed account of the incident in a complaint to police saying Sarma and Boro “stripped us naked, assaulted us and touched our private parts”.

9. Three Men Trick Armed Guard, Steal Rs 19.52L from Cash Van in Surat

Three youths stole cash amounting to Rs 19.52 lakh from the van of a private collection agency, in Chowk Bazaar area of Surat on Tuesday.

Radiant Cash Management Services, a private agency based in Udhna area of the city, deals in collecting cash from malls, multiplexes, and toll plazas and depositing it in banks. On Tuesday afternoon, when the agency’s cash van reached Chowk Bazaar to deposit money in a State Bank of India branch, Subhan Khan Pathan, who had been driving the van, took Rs. 37.72 lakh cash and went inside the bank, while armed guard Ramesh Singh waited inside the van with an amount of Rs 19.52 lakh kept in a bag, which was to be deposited at another bank. At the time, a youth went up to Singh seated inside the vehicle and told him that some currency notes had fallen on the road. As soon as Singh alighted the van to pick up the cash, another youth tactfully stole the bag containing the agency’s cash and slipped away, police said.
