1. Desi Breaking Bad: Scientist Arrested With Drugs Worth Rs 45 Crore


An inter-state drug racket involving manufacture and sale of amphetamine has been cracked with the arrest of a Bengaluru-based research scientist, his home-maker wife and an undergraduate student from Hyderabad.

The Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) officials have also seized 231 kg of amphetamine worth about Rs 45 crore in the international market from the trio.

2. Army Officer's Wife Duped Online; 2 Arrested


An Army officer's wife was duped of over Rs 8 lakh by two Nigerians in an online scam.

Director General of Police (DGP) Muktesh Chandar told reporters that they received a complaint from a woman saying that she was cheated by a Facebook user on the pretext of a gift worth 1.6 lakh pounds.

Both accused, who have been arrested through joint efforts of the Goa and Delhi Police, are part of an international Nigerian racket operating out of Delhi that cheats people over social media sites.

3. Rohtak Police Slaps Sedition Charges Against Man for FB Posts


In a first case of its kind, the Rohtak police on Monday registered a sedition case against a Facebook user for making anti-RSS, BJP and government functionaries posts on his wall.

The cops have identified the Facebook account as that of Surender Duhan. Based on the investigations carried out by cyber cell, police said that the mobile number used in creating the account has been identified as that of a resident of Jasbir Colony of Rohtak.

4. 20-Year-Old Stabbed to Death in Delhi After Dispute Over Goggles


A 20-year-old man was stabbed to death over a petty dispute involving his goggles in south west Delhi's Kapashera area, police said today.

Rupak was stabbed multiple times by accused Lokesh, 26, with a sharp object in a barber's shop yesterday. Lokesh had picked up Rupak's goggles and did not return it to him which led to a quarrel between them, said Surender Kumar, DCP (south west).

He was rushed to Jag Shanti hospital in Kapashera, where he succumbed to his injuries around 7.30 pm yesterday, the officer said.

5. Jammu: Teenage Girl Raped by 3 Men Inside a Shop


A 14-year-old girl was allegedly raped by three men on the outskirts of the city, police said on Monday.

The incident took place on Sunday in a shop in Gangyal area where the girl, a Class VIII student, had gone to buy some sweets. She was dragged inside it by the accused where they then raped her, a police officer said.

The accused were identified as Rahul Mehra, Rajan Mehra and Naresh Kumar, Station House Officer of Gangyal police station, Aijaz Ahmed said. All the accused have been arrested under various sections of rape and abduction, he said.

6. Record 39 Sexual Harassment Complaints in JNU in 2015-16


Jawaharlal Nehru University, which has been at the centre of a controversy in recent months, recorded 39 complaints of sexual harassment in 2015-16 financial year, the highest in the varsity's records.

The university had received 26 complaints of sexual harassment in 2014-15, while the number stood at 25 in 2013-14.

According to the 2015-16 annual report of Gender Sensitisation Committee Against Sexual Harassment (GSCASH), a central body which deals with complaints of this nature from all university departments, 42 complaints were received between January, 2015 and March, 2016.

7. Two Nigerians Held, Cocaine Seized


The Central Crime Branch officials arrested two Nigerians and seized 300 gm of cocaine worth Rs. 20 lakh from them.

Bright Ighalo (36) and Ibe Chinedu Mike (33) were nabbed by a team of CCB sleuths, while they were waiting for customers at Bhoopasandra bus stop on Saturday.

According to police, the accused, who had come to India on student visas, had dropped out of college and were peddling drugs. They said the accused had purchased the drugs in Mumbai and were selling it to their contacts in Bengaluru.

Police have also seized seven mobile phones and Rs 6.01 lakh in cash from them.

8. 23-Yr Old Alleges Ragging, FIR Lodged


A 23-year old BTech student of a college in Knowledge Park has alleged that he was beaten up by a group of over five other boys in a private hostel for about four hours in Greater Noida in an apparent bid to "rag" him.

The victim Aman Singh, a student of first year in Noida Institute of Engineering and Technology (NIET), Knowledge Park I, is a first year student of BTech (Automobile engineering), who is a resident scholar at the Aryan Residency, a private boys hostel in the area.

9. Where Passion, Extra-Marital Affairs Extract a Heavy Price


Of the 14 murders that were committed in Visakhapatnam city this year, the motive behind eight turned out to be illicit relationship.

The profiles mostly related to middle class and lower-middle class segments. This is also true, police have found, in several parts of Andhra Pradesh.

Indeed, the latest report of the National Crime Record Bureau (NCRB) shows that Andhra Pradesh ranks second in the country when it comes to murders with sexual jealousy as motive. Out of the total 1,099 murders recorded in 2015 in AP, about 198 were categorised under this tag, besides love affairs that led to 14 killings. Disconcertingly, the trend is rising.
