1. VTU Students Protest One-Time Exit System
Visvesvaraya Technological University’s (VTU) one-time exit scheme, which was introduced on September 13, brought joy for non-choice based credit system (old scheme) students, but it has left the CBCS (new scheme) students unhappy as they are not eligible under the one-time exit scheme.
Hundreds of students tried convincing varsity officials that they too want the year-back system cancelled.
On 20 September, students gathered at Freedom Park to make the demand yet again. The students want the year-back system to be scrapped and want to be given the chance to appear for supplementary examinations.

2. Suspicious Object Found Near Preschool
A suspicious object found near a play school in JP Nagar created panic among the residents on 20 September morning. After receiving a call on Namma 100, Puttenahalli police rushed to the spot. After thorough study, they found that the object was a power bank wrapped with wires.
The suspicious object was found next to a tree near BrookLands Preschool in JP Nagar. Early on 20 September, just after the day began at the school, the police control room got a call from a person informing them that there is a bomb in front of the school.
Puttenahalli police quickly alerted the bomb squad. Sniffer dog squad and forensic experts rushed to the spot. The access to the road was blocked by the police. The bomb squad verified the object and declared that it was a power bank wrapped in wires and colour paper.

3. Domestic Help Arrested for Robbing Myntra CEO
The Cubbon Park police have cracked a burglary case and arrested a domestic help, who along with her boyfriend, had stolen gold and diamond jewellery worth Rs 1 crore from the house of the CEO of e-commerce portal, Myntra, in August this year.
Ananth Narayananalong with his family was travelling abroad when the accused, Bhavani, using a duplicate key gained entrance into Narayanan’s house on Lavelle Road and along with her boyfriend took away valuables.
A case was filed. The police said they suspected an insider hand and rounded up the domestic helps and other employees of the houses. A detailed questioning led Bhavani to confess to the crime.

4. Who Will Replace Gauri Lankesh on Naxalite Rehab Committee?
A fortnight after journalist-activist Gauri Lankesh's murder, the government is searching for her replacement in the high-level committee set up for rehabilitation of Naxalites.
Activists have urged the government to fill the vacancy at the earliest, expressing fear that efforts to bring Naxalites back into the mainstream, which had gained momentum over the last three years, could be disrupted by Gauri's death.
"Gauri was pro-active and her presence helped the initiative gain ground. The government must act quickly to find a person with the required credentials to replace her," said A K Subbaiah, a panel member. Gauri was inducted into the panel headed by the chief secretary in 2014. Subbaiah and freedom fighter HS Doreswamy are the other two members in the committee.

5. Report on Lake Encroachments in Bengaluru Held Up
Work on clearing encroachments on city lakes — some of which overflowed during the recent rain — is now awaiting legislators’ nod. The report of the 10-member House Committee on Tank Encroachment has been held up for nearly four months without being placed before the House as it is awaiting signatures of seven members.
Without the panel’s nod, Revenue officials cannot start work on removing encroachments, which were partly blamed for the recent deluge in several parts of the city. The Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP), which is drawing flak from residents of affected areas, has been writing letters to the Revenue Department to take up the work.

6. SC Will Soon Seal Cauvery Dispute
The Supreme Court on 20 September reserved its judgement in the appeal filed by Karnataka and three other states in the Cauvery river water dispute. The concerned parties have been directed to file the final written statements within two weeks. An observation by the court about the necessity to constitute the Cauvery Management Board and the guidelines it is expected to give about the Board in its verdict was against the stand of Karnataka for long.
The Cauvery Water Disputes Tribunal gave its final verdict in 2007 but was not notified by the Union Government for the next six years. Even then, the CMB has not been constituted which has been demanded by Tamil Nadu. Karnataka has maintained that the Tribunal has not been completely impartial in its allocation and demanded more share in the waters.

7. NGO Seeks Governor Sanction to Prosecute CM
Karnataka Police Mahasangha, an NGO, has sought Governor Vajubhai Vala’s sanction to prosecute Chief Minister Siddaramaiah for appointing Hoskote MLA ‘MTB’ Nagaraj as the chairman of Bangalore International Airport Area Planning Authority (BIAAPA) in an alleged violation of rules.
The letter written to the governor states that Section 5 of the Karnataka Planning Authority Rules stipulate criteria for appointing chairman. According to the rules, only a qualified specialist such as economists, geographers, sociologists or legal practitioners can be made the chairman.
In the letter to the Governor, V Shashidhar, president of the Mahasangha, stated that as a resident of Garudacharpalya in BBMP limits, Nagaraj is not entitled to become chairman of the planning authority.
