1. CM's Latest Statement on Trifurcating BBMP Reignites a Heated Debate
Chief minister Siddaramaiah’s recent statement that the state is planning to split Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) has once again stirred up a heated discussion.
At a function in Bengaluru recently, the chief minister had stated that it was earlier decided to trifurcate the BBMP for administrative purpose only. However, the move was opposed by several leaders. Despite this, the government is mulling splitting the civic body as per requirement.
“It is alleged that Bengaluru is being split into divisions to tarnish the image of Kempegowda. It is our government that is celebrating Kempegowda Jayanati. We have named the international airport after Kempegowda and have established Kempegowda Development Authority. There is no politics in it,” the CM stated.

2. Bengaluru Rainfall Misses September Record by 3mm
Bengaluru city, which was on the verge of breaking the record for wettest-ever September, fell short by just 3mm rainfall. The city recorded 513.8mm at 8.30am on Saturday, just short of the 516.6mm in September 1986.
The Indian Meteorological Department's rainfall data going back 100 years shows that the month of August this year too missed the highest rainfall record by a narrow margin. In 1998, the rainfall was 387.1 mm while this year the rainfall fell short of the record by just 36mm.
However, near record rain during August and September, after a dry spell during June and July, has taken the seasonal rainfall (June 1 to September 30) total to 949.7mm, which means the city has had a very good south-west monsoon season, said officials with the IMD centre here.

3. Drug Case Against Late MP's Grandson
A grandson of late liquor baron and ex-Chairman of TTD, Audikesavulu Naidu, has landed in trouble after the Mercedes-Benz SUV which he was driving rammed into a Maruthi Omni near South End Circle in the early hours of Thursday, leaving six people including three children injured.
Vishnu, the late liquor baron's grandson, is said to have been under the influence of alcohol and drugs while driving the SUV. Two leading Kannada film actors,
Prajwal Devaraj, and Diganth, are also alleged to have been with him in the same car, when the accident happened. Caught up in the case with the unconfirmed report, both the actors clarified that they were not with Vishnu despite knowing him.

4. Cops Prevent Suspected Blue Whale Addict From Ending Life
The High Grounds police and the public rescued an MBA student who tried to commit suicide by jumping from the Windsor Manor bridge on Sunday afternoon.
After rescuing Ajay (28), a native of Bihar, the police shifted him to Nimhans as he manifested some symptoms of psychological disorder.
The police suspect that Ajay was addicted to Blue Whale as there were cut injuries on his hand. Ajay is an MBA student at a private college in Mysuru. He has been living in Mysuru for the past three years, the police said.
Some road users noticed Ajay walking suspiciously on the bridge around afternoon. “He was yelling and uttering some strange words. He was claiming that he would jump from the bridge and kill himself,” an eyewitness told DH. A few of them tried to convince Ajay to get down. But their efforts went in vain. While some climbed the bridge and approached him, others called the police.

5. Post Ayudha Puja, heaps of garbage lie uncleared in city
The Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) is faced with an onerous task of clearing mounds of garbage generated in the city on Ayudha Puja and Vijayadashami.
The BBMP workers have not lifted garbage since Friday as tonnes of solid waste is lying unattended at the markets at KR Market, Malleswaram, Yeshwantpur, Gandhi Bazaar, Basavanagudi, Jayanagar, Yelahanka, Ganganagar, Vijayanagar and Basaveshwaranagar among others.
Festival remains like plantain leaves and stems, pumpkins, flower and fruits have started rotting and the showers have only made the matters worse. The stench of rotting greens and fruits has made life miserable at several areas in the city. Garbage heaps can be spotted at the corners of several residential and commercial areas. The footpaths in Malleswaram have turned into dumping yards.
Piles of garbage generated on Ayudha Puja lie unattended on footpaths and roads in Malleswaram. Vendors have left behind the unsold plantain leaves and stem and other greens. We are not able to walk on footpaths, says Sangeetha Shetty, a resident of Malleswaram.

6. ASSOCHAM Asks Govt to Relax Fiscal Deficit Targets to Revive Economy
Amidst concerns over slowdown in growth due to transient disruptions in the economy following GST implementation and remaining over-hang of the demonetisation, India Inc is looking up to the government to take a few 'out of ordinary' steps like relaxation of fiscal deficit targets and increase in public spending to boost investment-led growth that would lead to more jobs and revival in consumer demand, ASSOCHAM has said in its recommendations.
Ahead of the credit policy review on October 4, the chamber has also written to the Reserve Bank of India and the monetary policy committee to cut the interest rates at least by 25 basis points, given the challenges being faced by the economy which needs immediate measures for revival of growth.

7. Four Men 'Kill' Youth After He Scolds Them for Smoking Near His Home
A 32-year-old man was hacked to death by a group of four men after he scolded them for smoking and causing a ruckus outside his home in central Bengaluru in the early hours of Sunday, police said.
Harish, of B Street, Ashoknagar, woke up around 2 am on hearing a loud noise as a Dasara procession was being taken out. He came out and saw four men smoking and chattering away right outside his home. He got angry at them and scolded them for smoking outside his home at the late hour.
He asked them to give up smoking, saying it was bad for their health. An argument ensued but the men eventually went away, a police officer said.
They, however, returned after some time, carrying lethal weapons. On seeing Harish outside his home, they waylaid him, hacked him to death and ran away, the officer added.
