1. IMD Predicts Heavy Rains Predicted for Two Days

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on 3 September warned of heavy to very heavy rainfall in Bengaluru and parts of Karnataka for the next two days.

IMD-Bengaluru’s director-in-charge Sunder M Metri said there are two systems under the influence of which the city, south, north, and coastal Karnataka will receive moderate to very heavy rainfall. He said there is a trough of low pressure running from south Maharashtra towards north interior Karnataka, and another from Rayalseema towards south Tamil Nadu.

2. NDRF on Standby Bengaluru Reaches Type-2 Stage Flooding

The Karnataka government has requested the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) to help tackle the situation arising out of floods in the city.

This, after the city reached type-2 urban flooding and the civic agencies cannot handle it. The team of 32 NDRF personnel is on standby to help in relief measures. It has completed a recce to handle the flood situation in HSR Layout. They are also conducting a recce to rescue people from Rajarajeshwarinagar and other flood-prone areas.

3. Cabinet Reshuffle: Anant Kumar Hegde Pips All, Shocks K'taka Leaders

The decision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and BJP national president Amit Shah to induct Uttara Kannada MP Anant Kumar Hegde into the Union Cabinet has come as a “big shock” to state BJP leaders.

They are at a loss to decipher the reasons why Hegde, a Brahmin, was chosen and not someone from the dominant Vokkaliga or Lingayat community. Forty-eight-year old Hegde is no novice, however, and is a five-time MP who once defeated Congress heavyweight Margaret Alva to enter Parliament.

4. Work on Metro Phase 2 Starts on Hosur Road

Having started work on the Whitefield stretch, Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) has now begun construction of Metro stations coming up on Hosur Road.

BMRCL is building a new line under Phase II from RV Road Metro Station to Electronics City. It has already acquired 219 properties along the line out of the 545 notified properties to build the Metro line with a length of 19.14 km.

5. Robbers Flash Machete At Man, Get Away with Rs 7 Lakh

Here’s all that’s making news in  Bengaluru.

A businessman, who was on his way home on a bike, was intercepted and attacked by two bike-borne miscreants near Ashoka Pillar. The miscreants were waiting near the speed hump as people usually slow their vehicle down. The businessman slowed his bike and got robbed of Rs 7 lakh in the wee hours of 3 September.

Waseem, 31, is a resident of Shivajinagar. He owns a wholesale chicken business in Banashankari. Waseem collects money from shops on a daily basis in the evening before heading home. Due to Ganesh Chaturti, most of the shops were closed from 23 August. After the festival, he collected Rs 7 lakh from the shops.

6. Bengaluru Court Orders Probe Into AirAsia India Ex-Ceo Mittu Chandilya

Here’s all that’s making news in  Bengaluru.

A local court has ordered the police to probe the alleged irregularities by ex-AirAsia India chief executive officer (CEO) Mittu Chandilya when he was working for the airline.

The Devanahalli court order came on a private complaint that accused Mittu of at least two irregularities. Following the court’s order, the International Airport Police have registered a criminal case against Mittu and begun a probe under 14 different sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), including criminal conspiracy, forgery, and falsification of accounts.
