Delhi Police on Friday refused to share details and evidences in connection with the death of Gajendra Singh with the Delhi District Magistrate.
Police have cited legal nitty gritties to defy the DM’s request who has been asked by the Delhi government to carry out a magisterial inquiry into the alleged suicide of the Rajasthan farmer on Wednesday.
Delhi Police spokesperson Rajan Bhagat said police has powers to investigate the issue under the CrPC Act as well as the Delhi Police Act.
“If anyone has any doubt we will take legal opinion,” he said.
He refused to comment on the standoff saying that the communication between the government and the police was “privileged” which cannot be disclosed to the media especially when it was a “political and administrative matter”.
No Comment on AAP Allegations
When questioned about AAP’s allegations that policemen had remained mute spectators to 41-year-old Gajendra Singh’s hanging, Bassi said,
I am not going to respond to any allegation because the case is under investigation. Once the investigation is complete, I will tell you the facts. We have filed an FIR in this connection under section 306 (Abetment of suicide), 186 (Obstructing public servant in discharge of public functions) and 34 (common intention) of IPC and whatever will be necessary will be done to investigate the case.

Case Passes to Crime Branch
The investigation in the case has been handed over to the Crime Branch, a team of which has been sent to the unfortunate farmer’s native village – Nangal Jhamarwada – in Dausa, Rajasthan. The team is slated to conduct a background check on Singh and gather information about the circumstances that brought him to Delhi.
Investigators are also checking his mobile phone call records to identify the people with whom he was in touch with after coming to Delhi. They have also visited the site of the incident and will be speaking to the people who had tried to save him.
