Prime Minister Narendra Modi was in Mumbai on Saturday, 11 August, to participate in two events at the Indian Institute of Technology.
He delivered the convocation address at the 56th annual convocation of the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Bombay.
‘Innovate For Humanity’
Addressing the audience, PM Modi acknowledged the achievements of IIT graduates and the success of the institution that has led to the creation of engineering colleges around the country. These efforts, the prime minister said, have led to India becoming one of the world’s “largest pools of technical manpower”.
PM Narendra Modi reoriented focus on knowledge and innovation, and appealed to the graduating youth to innovate through knowledge gained, so that India is made the most attractive destination for innovation & enterprise.
Modi urged students to innovate for ‘humanity’, from mitigating climate change to ensuring better agricultural productivity, or from cleaner energy to water conservation.
At the end of the address, the prime minister left the onus on students to help those who have not had the same opportunities as them.
“In the absence of opportunities and guides they have not found these chance. You can bring new light by guiding them in the lives of many students,” he said.
After the convocation, the Prime Minister will inaugurate the new building of the department of energy science and engineering, and centre for environmental science and engineering at IIT-Bombay, PMO said on Twitter.
