A mysterious “fire” at the office of energy consultant Prayas Jain, has gutted the “assets” inside.
Conveniently, the fire which consumed the office four days ago has been kept under wraps. This is after Jain’s arrest has taken the country by storm.
Jain is one of the key accused in the corporate espionage case. He had been arrested by the Delhi Police for allegedly buying stolen secret documents of the Oil Ministry.
Metis Energy - on 19 February, sent an e-mail to its clients, saying the daily newsletter on the goings-on in the oil and gas and power sectors will not be delivered for the next one week because of a “fire” at its office.
“Unfortunately a massive fire had broken out at our business premise yesterday (February 18). We were able to get hold of it, however, considerable damage has been caused to the building and assets inside,” the email stated.
Jain had been arrested along with former journalist Santanu Saikia, on February 18, for allegedly buying stolen government files for peddling to corporates, from a gang of five that included two junior Oil Ministry officials.
Saikia heads Indianpetro, a similar industry newsletter.
Other than them, five executives of Reliance Industries, Essar Group, Cairn India, Jubilant Energy and Reliance Anil Dhirubhai Ambani Group (ADAG) too have been arrested.
The Delhi Police is yet to issue a statement on this mysterious fire and whether any evidence that could be crucial in building a case against Prayas Jain, was destroyed in the process.
