Parliament Updates: Rajya Sabha Adjourned for the Day

On Tuesday, 6 August, the Parliament approved a resolution abrogating special status to Jammu and Kashmir given under Article 370 of the Constitution. The Lok Sabha also passed the Jammu and Kashmir Reorganisation Bill which seeks to divide the state into two Union Territories.

Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla said it was the most productive session since 1952.  The session had 37 sittings of total 280 hours, in which 36 bills were passed while 33 were introduced in the Lower House, he said.

• The Parliament passed resolution abrogating special status to Jammu and Kashmir on 6 Aug, as well as the Jammu and Kashmir Reorganisation Bill
• This session has seen important bills like the Triple Talaq, Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act and more being passed through both houses
• The ongoing budget session of the Parliament was extended till 7 August on 25 July on the government’s request

People's Democratic Party (PDP)'s Rajya Sabha MP, Nazir Ahmad Laway has given Zero Hour notice in the House over the Kashmir crisis.
