Parliament Updates: Rajya Sabha Adjourned for the Day

On Tuesday, 6 August, the Parliament approved a resolution abrogating special status to Jammu and Kashmir given under Article 370 of the Constitution. The Lok Sabha also passed the Jammu and Kashmir Reorganisation Bill which seeks to divide the state into two Union Territories.
Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla said it was the most productive session since 1952. The session had 37 sittings of total 280 hours, in which 36 bills were passed while 33 were introduced in the Lower House, he said.

People's Democratic Party (PDP)'s Rajya Sabha MP, Nazir Ahmad Laway has given Zero Hour notice in the House over the Kashmir crisis.
Nazir Ahmad, along with other Mir Mohammad Fayaz donned black armbands before entering the parliament, as a mark of protest towards the development in J&K.
