An Indian teenage boy, who had mistakenly crossed the border and entered Pakistan in August last year, has been repatriated as a goodwill gesture.
The 16-year-old from Assam, Bimal Narjere, was handed over to Border Security Force personnel by Pakistani Rangers, The Express Tribune reported on Tuesday, 12 February.
After completion of all legal requirements and verification of the Indian citizen’s identity, he was handed over to Indian authorities via the Wagah Border, reported PTI.
On 26 December last year, India had released two Pakistani national Abdullah Shah and Imran Warsi.
Abdullah, who was detained in Attari in 2017, returned to Pakistan, albeit without fulfilling his dream of meeting Bollywood star Shahrukh Khan.
In 2008, a local court found Warsi guilty of forging documents and spying under the Official Secrets Act and Passport Act, ANI reported. He had reportedly come to India in 2003 to meet his relatives in Kolkata and had stayed on in the country for four years beyond the expiry of his visa, during the course of which he married an Indian girl.
