A mysterious object with Chinese writing on it has been found in Kamle district of Arunchal Pradesh, about 100 km inside the Indian territory, police said on Saturday, 24 February.

A few villagers stumbled upon a partly burnt white box, wrapped in a cloth-like material with Chinese writing on it, on Wednesday last. It was found stuck in a tree, the Superintendent of Police of Kamle, John Pada, told PTI on the phone.

The SP, Range Forest Officer Bunty Tao, and a few officers trekked for five hours to Repari village, located at a height of 3,642 feet, to retrieve the object after woodcutters informed them about it.

In a report by InsideNE, SP John Pada told them:

After almost five hours we reached the spot and found a white box partly burnt and hastened to a plastic cloth like material with ropes. There was a number like 3,000 written in the burnt out cloth whereas the box had Chinese words engraved. The box had literally opened up after an impact with the tree. We could see one black device inside. The lower compartment probably stored a battery to power the device during flight. The assessment was made examining the powdered substance which spilled over and was connected to wires.

It had a powdered substance connected to wires, the SP said, adding it could be a meteorological equipment or a Chinese surveillance item, NDTV reported.

Director General of Police Sandeep Goel said they were trying to ascertain what the object was.

The baby girl, who we will refer to as 'Chhutki', was allegedly raped by her 28-year-old cousin when her parents were away. She has been discharged from AIIMS hospital after undergoing three surgeries, but needs more medical treatment in order to heal completely. Her parents hail from a low-income group and have stopped going to work so that they can take care of the baby. You can help cover Chhutki's medical expenses and secure her future. Every little bit counts. Click here to donate.)
