1. What Is the CM Doing, Fumes HC
The Bombay High Court has come down heavily on the chief minister for not taking enough interest in the murder cases of rationalists Narendra Dabholkar and Govind Pansare.
Noting that an elected leader belonged to the state and not just any party, a division bench of Justices SC Dharmadhikari and BP Colabawalla said, “It is a sovereign function and cannot be outsourced.”
“What is the CM doing? He holds 11 portfolios, including Home, but does not find the time to take stock of the case. His deputies do not have the time to remove obstacles in the probe?” the bench remarked.
The bench added that it was shameful that almost every investigation required the court’s intervention. The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) is investigating the Dabholkar murder case, while the State Crime Investigation Department (CID) is probing the Pansare case. Dabholkar was shot dead on August 20, 2013, in Pune while out on a morning walk and Pansare was shot at on February 16, 2015, in Kolhapur and succumbed to injuries on February 20.

2. Amit Shah to Decide Somaiya’s Poll Fate
Sitting BJP MP from Mumbai North East Kirit Somaiya may lose out on a poll ticket this time not only for angering the Shiv Sena, but also because the party leadership in Delhi (read Amit Shah) is miffed with him.
According to sources, the state BJP has put the ball about Somaiya’s renomination in the party high command’s court. A decision will now be taken by BJP president Shah, who has not taken Somaiya’s criticism of certain Central ministers over some policy issues and the Shiv Sena too kindly.
“It is true that the Sena has opposed Somaiya’s nomination, but the BJP top brass is also upset with Somaiya and wants to drop him. However, there is a thin possibility of him getting a chance if he is able to lobby hard. While the decision lies with the party’s top brass, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis will also have a say,” a senior BJP minister told Mirror.

3. Bollywood’s Favourite Mill Shut for Shoots
BMC says ‘imminent danger’ of structures collapsing; corporator Makarand Narwekar insists just one building dilapidated, terms civic body’s action mala fide.
It’s pack up for Mukesh Mills compound, the seaside structure in Colaba, which has earned fame and notoriety in equal measures as a film shoot location and a haunted place. In a letter issued by the BMC’s A Ward recently, the owners have been instructed to shut the compound for film shoots and other activities as several structures there have allegedly turned far too weak.
Now owned by the Transport Corporation of India, the compound, spread over 11 acres, needs a fresh audit till which time no activity will take place there, the BMC note said. “A notice has been issued to the Mukesh Mills owners to get a fresh structural audit conducted. Our survey showed that the walls and the chimney have turned weak and the structures are dilapidated,” Assistant Municipal Commissioner (A Ward) Kiran Dighavkar said.

5. Women Will Vote While EC Looks After Their Kids
Women will not have to skip voting simply because they have no one at home to look after their children. The kids can tag along, as the Election Commission (EC), for the first time, will be running creches at every voting centre in the state on the polling dates.
The election machinery will need additional manpower for the initiative and is making arrangements for the same.
“Crèche for kids accompanying their mothers will be run at each polling centre and a trained assistant will be appointed to take care of the children. We don’t want women to stay back at homes just because they don’t have anyone to look after their children. Every vote is important in a democracy and we want to give extra focus to women. Even pregnant women will get special assistance, if needed, at the polling booths,” said an official from the state EC.
