1. Civic Chief Should Conduct Regular Audits Of Bridges: Bombay High Court
The Bombay High Court on Tuesday said that the municipal commissioner should conduct frequent audits of bridges which are overcrowded. It also directed the BMC to come up with a new policy for the audit and repair of railway and foot overbridges (FOBs) in the city.
A bench of Chief Justice Naresh Patil and Justice N M Jamdar was hearing a PIL seeking a judicial inquiry by a retired High Court judge into the FOB collapse near the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT). The petitioner has also sought directions against the corporation to cancel all contracts awarded to the structural consultants, suspend all the officers involved and carry out a fresh structural audit jointly with IIT-Bombay of flyovers, bridges and FOBs.

2. TISS Guwahati Protest: Faculty At Mumbai, Hyderabad Express Solidarity
Contending that the situation with regard to the extension of contracts at all campuses of Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS) was the same as at TISS Guwahati, over 27 faculty members of TISS Mumbai and 16 faculties of TISS Hyderabad on Tuesday expressed solidarity with protesting members of the Guwahati branch of the institute.
As many as 14 faculty members of the Guwahati campus had announced a mass leave from April 1 citing non-extension of their contracts.

Acting on a “confession” by a woman, arrested in connection with the abduction of a two-year-old boy from her neighbourhood in Mumbra, that she, along with her relatives, had abducted and killed at least seven other kids, the Thane police on Tuesday spent more than two hours digging a 5x10-ft pit at Shildaighar in Thane to find the bodies, only to realise that they had been misled.

4. Two Welders, Who Caused Andheri’s ESIC Hospital Blaze, Arrested In Bihar
Two men were arrested late on Monday night for causing the fire at Employees State Insurance Corporation (ESIC) Kamgar hospital in Marol on December 17, last year, which claimed 13 lives and injured more than 100 others. Hulchul Mahato, 22, and Ranjan Yadav, 21, were working as welders at the hospital. They were arrested in Bihar and have been charged with section 304A (causing death by negligence) of the Indian Penal Code.

5. Pellet From Airgun Fired At Azad Maidan Blinds Passerby
A 26-year-old office attendant has lost vision in his left eye after getting hit by a pellet from an airgun fired at Azad Maidan in Mumbai.
The Azad Maidan police has registered a case under sections 336 (endangering personal safety of others) and 338 (causing grievous hurt) of the IPC against Pune-based Indian Military Training Centre, a private organisation that provides self defence and military training.
The centre had set up an air pistol firing session for students of a Churchgate college in the open ground in the heart of south Mumbai on February 16.
