1. Gauri Sawant, Mumbai's Social Worker Becomes the First Transgender Election Ambassador

Election Commission of India (EC) appointed Mumbai social worker and a transgender activist, Gauri Sawant as one of the 12 election ambassadors from the state. It's the first time in the history of elections that a transgender has been appointed as an election ambassador in India. Shree Gauri said, "I felt relieved to know that I was appointed as one of the election ambassadors for the general elections. Casting a vote is not just an individual's constitutional right but a social responsibility. It is important that every citizen who's eligible to vote must do it responsibly."

Central Railway (CR) will dismantle five foot-over-bridges (FOBs) at Bhandup, Kurla, Vikhroli, Diva, and Kalyan Junction stations.

Central Railway had floated a tender to dismantle the foot-over-bridges much earlier. According to CR, the dismantling was planned much before the collapse of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus FOB.

At least, six people were killed and over 30 injured after a portion of the foot overbridge (FOB) near the bustling Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus railway station in Mumbai collapsed on last Thursday.

3. Mumbai University Reschedules 76 Examinations Due to Lok Sabha Elections

The University of Mumbai (MU) has rescheduled 76 semester examinations, including final BCom tests and most self-financed commerce courses, and few papers of 27 examinations, to avoid a clash with next month’s Lok Sabha elections.

The 76 examinations, which include sixth-semester exams of BMS, BCom (Accounting and Finance) and BCom (Banking and Insurance), have been entirely pushed ahead by a few days. Some papers of the other 27 examinations, including sixth-semester BCom examinations, will be held on different dates, which are yet to be announced.

4. Should Have Done Study of Fisherfolk, Fish Breeding Areas Before Starting Work: HC to BMC, State Govt

The Bombay High Court on Tuesday told the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), the state government and fisheries department that they should have conducted a study of fishing communities and fish breeding habitats along the proposed coastal road project to ascertain the impact on livelihood.

Chief Justice Naresh Patil and Justice N M Jamdar were hearing a petition filed by Worli Koliwada Nakhwa Matsya Vyavsay Sahakari Society Limited, stating that reclaiming the shoreline and construction of stilted roads for the project will affect the rights of fishing communities to pursue their livelihood.

5. Couple Held for Stealing Shooter Vishwajeet Shinde's Bag Containing Live Cartridges

A couple was arrested here for allegedly stealing former national shooter Vishwajeet Shinde's belongings, including his shooting kit containing live cartridges, while he was travelling in a train, police said on Sunday. The incident took place last Friday when Shinde, who works with the Western Railway, was on his way to Mumbai from Delhi in the Sampark Kranti Express, an official at the Bandra railway police station said.
