1. Damaged Pressure Gauge Led to Gas Leak in Goregaon (East)

The damaged high-pressure gauge of the compressed natural gas (CNG) cylinders led to a gas leak on the bus that caught fire near Gokuldham market bus stop in Goregaon (East) on 3 May, states a report submitted by the Brihanmumbai Electric Supply and Transport (BEST). The report was tabled before a BEST panel on Monday.

The BEST committee, the policy-making body of the undertaking, had asked the administration to submit a detailed report at the earliest.

2. Will Win More Seats Than Predicted by Exit Polls: Shiv Sena

With most exit polls predicting that the dominance of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-Shiv Sena will continue in Maharashtra, the Sena said that it will win more seats than has been predicted. As per the exit polls, the Sena may lose more seats than the BJP in the state.

Most of the results of exit polls released on Sunday showed the BJP-Sena combine bagging around 35-36 seats in Maharashtra. The Sena is projected to win 11 to 13 seats, which is a considerable drop from its 2014 tally. In 2014, the BJP and Sena had won 23 and 18 seats, respectively.

3. Mumbai’s TISS yet to Act on ICC Recommendations of ‘Removal of Service’

Two months after the internal complaints committee (ICC) of Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS) probed a sexual harassment complaint against Prof Vijayakumar P and recommended that he “should be removed from service at the institute within a month as per the service rules laid out in TISS bylaws”, the institute is yet to implement these recommendations despite Dr Shalini Bharat, TISS director, accepting them.

4.Maharashtra Cong Mulls ‘Social Engineering’ to Appoint Opposition Leader

The Maharashtra unit of the Congress has hinted it will go for “social engineering” to appoint the leader of the state legislature and leader of Opposition in the state Assembly, ahead of the Assembly elections to be held later this year. All India Congress Committee general secretary and Maharashtra in-charge Mallikarjun Kharge said the party may appoint members from marginalized or minority communities as leader of the Opposition and state legislature, in a bid to present a united front.

5. State to Reward Fishermen for Cutting Nets to Release Shark

A group of fishermen in Raigad who accidentally caught a 25-foot-long whale shark and cut their nets to set it free last month may receive ₹25,000 from the state as compensation for their damaged equipment.

The incident took place on April 3, when fishermen from Bharadkhol village in Shrivardhan encountered the whale shark, 17 km off the Ratnagiri coast.
