1. BMC Seeks State Nod To Draw On Its Reserves To Meet Water Needs
The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has sought the state’s permission to use 1.70 million litres of reserve water stock from two of its dams, Bhatsa and Upper Vaitarna, to meet the city’s water needs till July.
The current water stock stands at 16.79% of the total capacity of 14.47 million litres, far less than last year’s 29.56% and 29.93% at the same time in 2017.
Of the seven lakes/dams that supply water to the city, Bhatsa and Upper Vaitarna dams are state-controlled and have a larger reserve stock compared to the others. The civic body needs the state government’s permission to draw from each dam’s reserve stock.

2. Unable To Walk For 10 Years, SGNP’s Only White Tiger Dies At 18
An 18-year-old white tiger, the last one inhabiting the Sanjay Gandhi National Park in suburban Borivali, died due to age-related ailments on Friday morning, officials said.
According to SGNP officials, the feline, ‘Bajirao’, was suffering for chronic ankylosis — a condition referring to abnormal stiffening and immobility of a joint due to fusion of the bones — on its left shoulder and chronic senile generalised arthritis, for last four years. The animal was also unable to walk since last 10 years, they said.

3. Trolled After Man Slipped Into Open Manhole, BMC To File Defamation Suit
Facing flak on Twitter over a city-based fund manager’s narrow escape after slipping in an open manhole in Lower Parel area, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) is now planning to file a defamation suit against the victim and a few others for poking fun at the civic body and “maligning its image”.
Samir Arora, fund manager, fell into an open manhole in Laxmi Woolen Mills estate at Lower Parel on April 25. The incident came to light after Arora responded to a tweet from his friend Neeraj Batra, who had first shared the incident on the micro-blogging site.

4. Relief For GLC Students? MU Says Re-Exam Not Against Rule
Providing relief to students of Government Law College (GLC) who failed their practical tests last week, the University of Mumbai’s (MU) board of studies (BoS) for law has opined that varsity rules don’t prohibit the college from conducting re-examination for these students. GLC had previously refused to let students re-take the exam. A university official said, “We have received a report from BoS. The university will now act accordingly.”

Godrej Properties has acquired the iconic RK Studios in Chembur and plans to build a residential and luxury retail complex on the prime real estate land spread over 2.2 acres.
