1. CM Devendra Fadnavis Announces Probe into Ratnagiri Dam Burst Incident

Chief minister (CM) Devendra Fadnavis on Wednesday announced a probe into the Tiware dam breach incident that claimed at least 9 lives. Fourteen more from Chiplun in Ratnagiri district went missing on Tuesday.

A Special Investigation Team (SIT) headed by a senior IAS officer will be set up to inquire into the accident. In a review meeting with local administration on Wednesday, Fadnavis directed water resources minister Girish Mahajan and Ratnagiri’s guardian minister Ravindra Waikar to visit the site of the accident.

2. Defamation Case: Rahul Gandhi to Be Present in Court Today

Former Congress chief Rahul Gandhi will be present at Mazgaon court at 11 a.m. on Thursday for the hearing in a criminal defamation case filed against him and CPI(M) leader Sitaram Yechury.

The complainant, advocate Dhrutiman Joshi, is a Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) worker. He alleged that Mr. Gandhi linked the RSS with the murder of journalist Gauri Lankesh while speaking to a reporter outside the Parliament. Mr. Gandhi had allegedly said, “Anybody who speaks against the ideology of the BJP [Bharatiya Janata Party], against the ideology of the RSS is pressured, beaten, attacked and even killed.” Mr. Yechury also allegedly made a statement that it was the RSS ideology and RSS men who had killed Lankesh.

3. Shifu Sunkriti; Founder of ‘Cult’ Group to Continue to Face Obscenity Charge

The founder of Shifu Sunkriti, an alleged cult group, will continue to face the obscenity charge after a court rejected his plea seeking to drop the charge.

In 2017, Sunil Kulkarni was arrested by the Mumbai Police following a petition in the Bombay High Court filed by the parents of two women, aged 23 and 21, stating that he was running a “cult group, and that he had hypnotised and enticed the women”.

4. 29-Year-Old Delivers Baby at Mumbai’s Dombivli Station Amid Chaos

A 29-year-old woman delivered a baby boy on a platform at Dombivli railway station amid peak-hour chaos caused by train delays on Wednesday. Women commuters cordoned off a corner on platform number three and covered Jasmine Shabbir Shaikh with their stoles and dupattas as she delivered the baby around 7.30am.

Shaikh, a resident of Khadavli, near Titwala, who was nine months pregnant, had boarded a Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT)-bound train to get to Cama Hospital, after doctors in Khadavli referred her there.

5. Thane Traffic Cop Finds Bag With ₹1 Lakh, Returns It to Owner

A traffic constable, posted at the Rabodi unit, returned a bag containing ₹1 lakh to its owner on Wednesday. He had found it lying near Akash Ganga society at Rabodi in the area.

It was around 1.40pm when Dnyaneshwar Kumawat, the traffic constable, noticed the bag on a footpath bench as he was riding on his motorbike. When he asked a man, standing next to a car nearby, if the bag was his, he got a negative response.
